Really surprising camera and value Date: November 4, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Dim LCD, Short battery life

I've been using this camera for 3 to 4 years now. I also use a 5d and a 5d Mark II for my documentary work. I can't say enough good things about this camera. I have put it to the tests, having used it in the field for over a year to do the photo-illustration for an outdoor guidebook, in the rain and snow and other sorts of ick. It has done nothing but help me out.

The camera's weakness is that the images are a little noisy at 1600 ISO, which is to be expected with 8 megapixels. But generally they are crisp, even for print publication or for large prints (I have gone as big as 16 x 20 inches with no problems). The obvious big benefit is that the camera is small and light. It is a good choice for carrying for long periods and is great for candid shots.

Some reviewers have noted that the camera is noisy. I assume that must mean image quality at high ISO, because operationally (mechanically) the camera is pretty quiet for an SLR. (Compare it to one of the big ones). It is not a camera you would buy as a one for sole use in professional contexts (there are others that offer a lot more features). But as a backup, or for use in contexts where a big, loud SLR isn't appropriate, or for situations where you have to carry a camera and gear for long distances, you cant beat it. I take mine with me everywhere, and in spite of having two of the full frame models, I find occasions to use it often.

Regarding the short battery life: the batteries are small, and comparatively cheap. I find that one battery does well shooting RAW for a complete 2 gb card plus.

I love this camera! Date: November 2, 2009
Pros: excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life

I am an aspiring photographer, and this camera is so wonderful, I love it! I haven't experienced other cameras, but I read reviews and some people thought it was noisy.. I think it's fine. I really like the manual setting; I don't know much about cameras, but I find this setting very user-friendly. The only thing I don't like is the lense it comes with, it has a .9ft zoom. But I know that it's just the switch of a lense, so it's not much of a problem.

best digital SLR for the price Date: October 27, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, availibility of extra lenses/equipment
Cons: noisy

I picked up the Digital Rebal XT several years ago. I found that it is very easy to use and there is a large selection of equipment that can be added. I have picked up extra lenses and teleconverters to use. I have used this camera for pictures at the Nascar races, NFL games, family get togethers and anything else we have wanted to take pictures of. The battery life of the Canon battery is good, but other battery brands to not hold a charge as long or even have a life as long as the Canon batteries. We have always been able to get very clear and sharp pictures. The only problems I have had was using it in a deer blind. It did make a bit too much noise that the deer did hear.

Cons: noisy, Shaky operation

Great camera. I wanted one for a few years and when I found this one ata price I could afford, I jumped. I am very satisfied withthe results and the quality of my pictures. I am currently enrolled in photography classes and this camera is making them so much easier. I own two Canon film SLRs and love them, this is a great addition to my collection. I still use my film cameras but I like the idea of not having to change film in the middle of my kid's games.

Pros: excellent image quality, quiet, Quick Start-up time, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Dim LCD, Short battery life

I got this as my first digital SLR, I have been taking pictures for a long time and at work we used an EOS 20D and loved it, but the economy being what it is, I boght what I could at the time. This camera has been one of the best investments I have ever made dollar for dollar it is well worth it. Easy to use and full of features yet still lets me do what I want in an SLR.

Had this camera for two years now, took a photography class about a year ago and really realized what I could do. Aperture priority all the way, sometimes manual. Really noisy at 800 and 1600 ISOs, but excellent at lower ones.

T1i is better. But this is pretty dang good.

Lots of features. You need to go through the manual and play with it. Try all the dials. Lucky you, no film to buy!! The software is great. Once you get through initial buyer's confusion, you will understand the vast possibilities, and you will love it also!!

Use with Vista 64 Date: May 19, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, easy to use, good battery life, can use different lens
Cons: Dim LCD, noisy, no driver for vista 64

I have had this camera since April 2005. I have no problem till I got a new computer with the Vista. No I could not hook up with an outdated driver. Follow the fix from an earlier review to fix the problem by changing the Connection on the camera itself in menu from PC to Print/PTP. It works!!!!! Picture taking is judged on the skill of the operator. I do OK and learn from it. I rate it noisy because I was taking pictures next to a camcorder and it recorded the sounds.

Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD
Cons: Complicated controls/menu, Difficult to use, short life of product

I had my XT for about 13 months with no problems. Not used much during that time but around the 13 month time frame the camera started to hesitate to take pictures and it has only gotten worse. I have done every thing possible to try and get it back working. Update firmware which was correct but did it again to try. Erased all settings in memory. Changed lens. Cleaned the sensor. Charged the battery over night. Funny thing is it will work some times back to back but you could pause for 1 min. and then it will not take anything. It focuses fine, the ready light is lite, but no matter how long I hold the button no picture is taken. And of course I did not buy warrenty thinking I would never need it with a Canon!

Using this camera almost everyday Date: April 27, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Nice features/settings, Solid Operation, no education in cameras
Cons: Complicated controls/menu, visual controls very small

This was my first Digital SLR. I do find that there is so much information that you need to read to be familiar with. The more I read the better my photos get. Yes I find it complicated, but I take my time and it all works out fantastic. I have 6 Grandchildren and with the sports mode, I get every move right on time. The compact camera no matter how much cheaper it is will not allow you to capture you life as fast as this camera can. I need to take some classes. If you are not already educated in Photography that is a must. I have had my photos published and I can show you 5 years of my life never to be forgotten. It is worth every hour you read and practice. I have bought over 6 cameras in 10 years, and now I can spend the money on lenses and framing my life.

Cons: Poor build quality, Dim LCD, Heavy/Bulky, cf card issue

Great camera, used it straight for two years. It provides great features, a great manual and really teaches you a great amount regarding photography. Compatible with a lot of lenses and the value is incredible.

The reason I say I used it straight for two years is because I ran into an uncommon flaw where the camera does not turn on and up until now, I have no solution.

My first digital camera. Date: March 28, 2009
Pros: excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, easy to use

This is my first digital camera. I bought it a little over a year ago so I have had some time to play with it and see what it can do. When I first got it I took it out of the box, tossed the directions to the side, charged the battety then started taking pictures. It's very easy to use. Later I read the directions to learn how to use the features. I am very happy with this camera.
I like that there are 6 different settings for picture quality. This way I can have some pictures in high quality and others in lower quality to save space on the memory card.

I've owned this for about 3 years, and I've been fairly satisfied. The quality is not always the best. It always seems to work without any problems. The batteries last quite a while. Image quality is not the greatest with the 18 - 55 lens that it came with.
