PIXMA iP4200

Advanced paper handling and direct photo printing is built-in. With a dual paper path, you can keep photo paper stored in one tray and plain paper in another. You're always ready to print - no paper switching required. Plus, you can print 2 sided to help save on paper costs. And with direct photo printing, you simply connect any PictBridge compatible digital camera or DV camcorder, and print! This PC-free process saves you time and eliminates the need to be tied to your computer. A system for long-lasting photos. The Canon ChromaLife100 system combines the PIXMA iP4200 Photo Printer's FINE print head technology and newly developed inks with select Canon photo papers, with results rivaling that of conventional photos. These beautiful photos will also last up to 100 years when stored in an archival quality photo album 4 . And with the new smart LED ink, your LED lamp flashes when ink is running low, and flashes even faster when nearing empty. When you install a new ink tank this smart LED system will even glow to let you know if its not properly installed, making it an ease to use.

My 2nd Pixma iP4200
Date: March 18, 2010
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: ink tank non-resestable chip
I purchased my second Pixma iP4200 after having used my initial iP4200 in a home office environment making thousands of color and B&W copies and photos over 4 1/2 years. Print quality, duplex printing and reasonable speed at a reasonable first cost are reasons why I purchased a second iP4200. After comparing specifications I found that Canon does not offer a current product of comparable quality as this price point, thus my decision to purchase this second iP4200 printer.

Very good printer
Date: November 20, 2009
Pros: durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: sometimes paper gets off track inside printer
This printer is an excellent one to own. I have owned mine since september of '08, so a little over a year. Yes you will use a lot of ink, but you will also get the excellent quality that people have come to expect from a canon. If you buy one you will want to keep it away from kids. I have a one and a two year old and they always go up to the printer and take the ink out and have moved the housing for the ink around in there before. But that just goes to show how reliable it is. My kids have messed around with it and it has a lot of daily use and still no problems. The only bad thing that i can say about it, which really isn't bad, is after a year i am getting my first paper jams inside the printer over and over, but that is probably because of where my printer is located the paper can not stand up straight. I would highly recommend this product. My dad recommended it to me and he has the ip 4300.

Frustrating!
Date: August 12, 2009
Pros: Compact Design, Lightweight/Portable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, Low Ink Consumption, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: Flimsy Construction, unreliable
Completely unreliable, never works when I need it, constantly breaks down with little to no provocation. It makes beautiful copies when it does work, but I'd rather have less-beautiful copies and get to use my printer!

excellent photo printer but...
Date: March 20, 2009
Pros: durable, easy to use, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: High Ink Consumption, see review
This is my 2nd Canon Printer. When I purchased my printer there were no directions on settings. After using this printer for a few years and wasting ink trying to print black only I discovered on the Canon website I have a choice of wasting ink or wasting paper. I cannot use DUPLEX if using black ink only! Duplex uses colored ink to make black!!!! It's a very nice printer but costly! Surely Canon can come up with a fix for this.

A very good workhorse
Date: February 15, 2009
Pros: Compact Design, Lightweight/Portable, durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, Low Ink Consumption, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors, fantastic compact printer
Cons: Slow Print Speed, prints text a little too slow but workable
I have used this printer for 3 years now and it has worked flawlessly. The pictures are absolutely wonderful and the ink goes a very long time.
When I first purchased it I was not aware of the duplexing, but that was just icing on the cake. That is what I use the most, printing several pages of text document at a time, the duplexing is great.
This printer is also a very nice convenient and compact size.
But alas, I am going to move on, now that the MP980 fills the bill for me: wirless and slide and negative scanning.
I will keep the 4200 until I can find a good home for it, someone who will appreciate this quality little printer.

Great with one flaw
Date: February 11, 2009
Pros: Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: unreliable, scratches pictures
My hobby is photography and the ip 4200 prints great pictures. But then it started scratching one line down half the page. I tried different suggestions from the manual. Some seemed to help for a couple of sheets, but then it would come back. Even on regular printing it would nick the lead edge of the page where it scratched the picture. Now its starting to get multiple paper jams. I guess I'm looking at getting a new printer. I'll probably take my chances with this model again.

Gotta agree; it rocks!
Date: January 19, 2009
Pros: easy to use, fast print speed, Low Ink Consumption, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors
I've had this printer for several years, but I've just started printing 8-1/2"x11" photos on this printer to sell. The pics are absolutely fantastic! Sharp, accurate and vivid color, no grain, and I'm printing files that are only 5Mp. I've done photography as a hobby for years, and these prints are fabulous. Ink lasts. And the duplex feature is great for letters, etc. Saves paper or hassle. I'm on a Mac, so I don't know about the Windoze 2K problem. Have a friend with iP1800. Now THAT's cheap, but this one's great!

Problems
Date: December 27, 2008
Pros: Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: Difficult to use, unreliable
I am not happy with the performance parameters of my ip 4200 as it does not follow changes in Win 2000Pro and is hard to get page setup to respond. The canon site for troubleshooting does not answer my questions only shows how to use the printer setting which i allready know. Is the driver or software faulty or need update fix??

Great support!

Pros: Compact Design, Lightweight/Portable, durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, Low Ink Consumption, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors
I've had my Canon iP4200 for nearly four years, with two different Macs. I needed to clean a roller to prevent ink smudges on envelopes. The directions, with great illustrations, worked like a charm. Thanks for your help!

Perfect performance 18 months and going!
Date: December 9, 2008
Pros: Compact Design, Lightweight/Portable, durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: should offer cd/dvd printing standard
This little printer is so unbelievably dependable! As a teacher/Mom etc... it just keeps cranking.
I downloaded the software from an outside source and bought the tray from an outside source to print on DVD's, CD's and that feature is flawless as well. It is great for sending home the kids' program and activity videos!

Pros: easy to use, reliable
I love this printer. I have had it for 3 years and have not had a single problem with it. The feature I love most is the duplex printing, it can automatically flip over the paper. The ink lasts and with the 5 different ink tanks you just need to change the color that is out. I also like the two different paper feeds. I do not see anything wrong with this printer.

Great for Pics and Schoolwork!
Date: November 20, 2008
Pros: Compact Design, durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, Low Ink Consumption, reliable
Single mother of 3 students, there's not a night that goes by that this printer sits idle. The ink is very affordable, the printed photography is incredible and the printer itself is very user-friendly! This is a must have printer for any family that has students. I enjoy printing out ideas for dinner, maps and directions, and pics of my kids and friends! I hope this helps, it rocks! I'm surfing the net tonight to see where I can buy another 1 for the best price. It's ended up on one of my daughter's Christmas List!!!!!
