EF 200mm f/2L IS USM

This ultra-fast telephoto, a new member of Canon legendary L-series lenses, has totally new optics to provide better image quality. It uses fluorite and UD lens elements for excellent chromatic aberration correction and consists of 17 elements in 12 groups. The built-in Optical Image Stabilizer gives it up to 4 stops of stabilization correction. The inner USM and optimized AF algorithms result in fast and quiet autofocusing, and the circular aperture can even produce beautiful out-of-focus images. This ultra-high-performance lens also improves its durability - better dust- and water-proofing. The EF 200mm f/2L IS USM is outstanding for many available-light applications, including indoor sports, theater work, fashion, and candids at events. MTF Chart

amazing lens
Date: October 10, 2009
Pros: Super-sharp images, Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus, great in low light
Cons: havent found any to date
Aquired this lens earlier this week WOW.! The auto focus speed is simply amazing, with both the 5D MKII and the new 7D. The optics are the best to date of anything that I've used - I believe it's better than the current Canon 300 F/2.8 and the 500 F/4. The weight isnt bad, hand-holdable for me, and the 'little white whale' works well with both the 1.4 and the 2.0 extenders.
Would highly recommend this for sports, as a second lens - in addtion to carrying a 400 or a 500.
I gave this a go an engagement (wedding) shoot. A little large, but for interior shots, in low light, this really worked well.
It utilzes the same drop in filters as the other telephotos, and I believe it may take the place of my 300, for a number of projects.
My hats off to the folks at Canon.......again!

Best Portrait Lens!
Date: January 14, 2009
Pros: Super-sharp images, Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus
Cons: little heavy, 1.9metre minimum focus
maybe sports as well. Just insanely fast, brilliant bokeh and the best color imaginable. A little heavy. But I need the workout. Sharpness beyond question. This is THE lens for shooting anything moving fast or wanting to pull something off its background. Can isolate eyes!
If I was going to beg for something, it would be a decrease in the minimum focus distance.
