Pros: Compact Design, durable, easy to use, High-speed scanning, High resolution, cost effective
I now own four of these scanners for archival research, which I use in a small group scanning tens of thousands of pdf pages and thousands of photographs. I so appreciate the speed clarity and flexibility of this machine, especially using ScanGears advanced settings. These include some color management features that are important for workflow into Photoshop and professional printing. It is a testament to this machine that for my most mission-critical photographic scans I skip all the way up to the Epson Perfection 750 Pro, which is much bigger and much more expensive but very high end. This LiDE 200 skips over many scanners in between to rate being beside the Epson.
The LiDE 200 is the fastest scanner I've used so far. For comparison, the LiDE 80 takes 37 seconds to scan one 8x11 color document at 300dpi. The LiDE 200 takes 14-18 seconds. When you're scanning thousands of pages, this speed is money in the bank.
The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five on Performance is that you really need to pay attention to executing the calibration routine on a regular basis. After a couple of hundred pages, you begin to see horizontal "shifts" in a scan. This is not a problem if you regularly calibrate the scanner.
The machine is highly portable, durable and simple to use.
