Love this camera
Date: November 6, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time
I've only had this camera for a few weeks but I am very impressed with it's ease of use. I was concerned about it's complexity as I am not an expert but using the cameras controls over picture taking has been easy to learn and use.

Great Camera
Date: November 5, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life, great images, excellent feel
I have been using my 50D since April, 2009. I had originally purchased the 50D to replace the AE1 that I had been using since 1983. I wanted a digital camera that would equal or surpass the 35mm in image quality. I can say that after 7 month of use, and approximately 1000+ images that I had made the right decision. This camera has performed wonderfully, and I am extremely happy with it. I was almost swayed by the so called "experts" that said that the 50D was going to be very "noisy" at the higher ISO levels. Yes, at 6400 or 12,800 ISO you get some "noise". But at 3200 ISO and below, the 50D is a stellar performer. I shoot mainly Sports (Baseball and Soccer), and Wildlife (daylight and low light). I have used L series and standard lenses with great results. I cannot think of one complaint for this camera. Anyone wishing to throw their 50D away, I'll take it. I would like a spare!

can't wait to get rid of it
Date: November 4, 2009
Pros: good battery life Cons: Poor image quality
I have a 100-400mm L lens. The lens was magnificent with a 20D, I decided to go for more megapixels and got a 40D. 40D was a great camera but when the 50D came out I decided to go for more detail in the photos and more enlargeability. The 50D seemed ok and then I started to notice that the sharpness was not there. Mentioning this to other photographers, they said they noticed this also. I think that Canon tried to create something better than the 40D and wound up with a "lemon". I cannot wait to trade this "thing" off for a 7D. Hopefully they have resolved the problems. Why would you make a camera that has the ability to tweek the sharpness for 20 different lens, it would seem that it should be on target without tweeking. I shoot surfing pictures and have been tempted to take off the lens and toss the 50D in the Atlantic. This is my opinion of the 50D--- wish I had kept the 40D.

Have had the camera for 4 months. Have taken about 7 thousand picture. Have and do own a number of DSLR. I have no complaints whatsoever. After a days shooting. 600-700 shoots I charge the battery, download and format my card. Ready to go for the next day. Any suggestions to canon, yes ,get ride of the Basic modes.

What A Way To Restart A Hobby
Date: October 26, 2009
Pros: excellent image quality, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, easy to use, good battery life
I have had my 50D for almost a year and I love it. Battery life is great, went to shoot the Blue Angels and took almost 2700 photos that day (most in auto burst mode). Still had some battery life. Only hold back that day was lack of memory cards (had 6 - 500mb and 2 - 4 GB) and used them all. Since corrected with 16 GB card. I do not use LCD except for review. Camera is rugged, my Unit with kit lense fell from camera bag approx 2.5 feet. Broke UV filter but camera and lense not damaged. I now shoot only in raw mode. Battery life with flash is much shorter but that is to be expected. I have since added Cannon 70-200 F4 IS USM lense and expect to add macro lense in near future.

old guy, new camera
Date: October 26, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life, logical controls, similar size/weight of vintage slr's, the canon credibilty, easy support access, sold as a kit w/lense Cons: noisy, have to read the directions
I have owned a Canon AE-1 since the mid 70's, and I don't have a cell phone. That said, I was hesitant in going digital because of changing to a totally different mode of taking pictures. I made the right decision in changing to the Canon 50D. I took my time reading everything I could about this camera, and the flexibility of the digital experience and I couldn't be more pleased with the performance of the camera as well as myself. If you too have a hesitation changing over to the digital age, know that it will improve your pictures, ease of creativity, and increase your enjoyment of photography

Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life Cons: noisy
Bought this camera a couple of weeks ago. I love it. A very nice piece of equipment. I shot a lot. I'm able to get what I need effortlessly. Picture quality is superb, even in low light.
As far a battery life, I shot tell the batteries were dead, which happened rather quickly at first. After recharging them, they are lasting as long or longer than those in my Canon 20D. (I use battery grips).
I personally like the weight and 'feel' of the camera. A very solid and rugged feel. I also like the added weather seals designed to keep out moister.
The only drawback that I've found with this camera is the focusing in low light. Not up to par (in my opion) for a camera of this class. Other wise I'm very pleased. This is one of those time where I know I made a wise purchase.

Perfect for my needs
Date: October 13, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life Cons: Complicated controls/menu, Missing features/settings, live view, aeb limited, print button seriously???, hard on any non-l lens
What a step up from my XTi, this camera just rocks. It doesn't feel like a toy, yet fits the hands perfectly. The accessory grip should be standard as the controls for portrait orientation feel perfect on the grip but otherwise... the camera simply has that great feel about it.
I love the speed with the faster cards, love the 14bit files, love the fact if I'm in trouble or missed something the files can actually be cropped, love the LCD and the weather sealing.
Things I don't like... AEB buried in menu and very limiting, a print button in this day and age (who prints directly from a d-slr???), the camera is VERY hard on non-L lenses whereas my XTi produces better images with the standard every day lenses and lastly is the Live View which I've never used but I use it on my point and shoot so maybe someone can find a use for it (I haven't on the d-slr but have on the P&S).
No regrets, AWESOME camera and if the 50D had off-camera lighting controls like the competition had at the time (now Canon has it with the 7D) I'd be in heaven.

Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
I just wished to Canon that I show the panoramic photo of the Grand Canyon taken 5 frames to make a panoramic photo without using a tripod. It is very sharp much better then my 20d eos I've still have. I had a little trouble at times to get the magental photos right. Other then that it is a perfect camera. Since I've upgraded the firmware, it is nearly perfect.

Canon 50D
Date: September 1, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life Cons: none
I have used this camera for about 5 months now and I am impressed. I got it to replace my 40D and I started with the original Digital Rebel (6MP) and progressed through the Rebel line to the XTi and then the 40D. They were all great cameras. I have a background in photography beginning in 1973 with SLRs. I have done weddings with every one of them. This 50D was so easy to use and I did not even have to use a flash. I have noticed the 7D also. Maybe that will be my next extra camera.

Outstanding
Date: August 26, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, fast continuous shooting
I've taken this camera all over the U.S. and Canada and used it in many different weather situations. Excellent quality, great versatility - sports, weddings, nature etc. Compatible with an outstanding assortment of Canon lenses. Great detail and effective ISO range. Very high value for the $.
The T1i has HD video as does the 5D Mark II and they appear to share the same sensor, image processor etc... a firmware upgrade to include HD video on the 50D would be incredible (and a blow to the competition). Regardless, this is a remarkable camera whether you are just getting started or a pro needing a high quality backup camera.

Great Camera for the $$$
Date: August 12, 2009
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life Cons: Complicated controls/menu
Overall, a great upgrade to my Canon 20D. Very responsive with nice image quality, but you do need good lenses and proper technique to get the most out of this camera. High iso performance is better than my 20D and the new lcd screen is great. I'm primarily use my 50D for portraits, fine art still life, and copy work.

solid, high quality workmanship; technologically advanced; excellent image quality. Thoughtfully designed for ease of use. This is my first Canon, and within minutes I understood most all the controls. It is not a lighweight, however. Be prepared to handle the extra weight.

Blown Away
Date: August 10, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, good battery life
I am a rank amatuer in the digital camara world and hesitated for quite a while between purchasing the Rebel T1i and the 50D DSLR with a Canon EF-S 18-200 IS Lens. I finally purchased the 50D with not one regret. I was, and still am blown away with the possibilities and features of this camera. If I had one wish it would be a better and more explicit book of instructions. After purchasing the 50D I met a person who happened to be a retired photographer and reporter and his best advise to me was "just go out and shoot pictures" which is what I did and that learning curve is getting to be less of an effort. As a 79 year old timer I am determined to master this equipment and have fun doing it. You did a great job CANON.
