Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life

I just wished to Canon that I show the panoramic photo of the Grand Canyon taken 5 frames to make a panoramic photo without using a tripod. It is very sharp much better then my 20d eos I've still have. I had a little trouble at times to get the magental photos right. Other then that it is a perfect camera. Since I've upgraded the firmware, it is nearly perfect.

Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: none

I have used this camera for about 5 months now and I am impressed. I got it to replace my 40D and I started with the original Digital Rebel (6MP) and progressed through the Rebel line to the XTi and then the 40D. They were all great cameras. I have a background in photography beginning in 1973 with SLRs. I have done weddings with every one of them. This 50D was so easy to use and I did not even have to use a flash. I have noticed the 7D also. Maybe that will be my next extra camera.

I've taken this camera all over the U.S. and Canada and used it in many different weather situations. Excellent quality, great versatility - sports, weddings, nature etc. Compatible with an outstanding assortment of Canon lenses. Great detail and effective ISO range. Very high value for the $.

The T1i has HD video as does the 5D Mark II and they appear to share the same sensor, image processor etc... a firmware upgrade to include HD video on the 50D would be incredible (and a blow to the competition). Regardless, this is a remarkable camera whether you are just getting started or a pro needing a high quality backup camera.

Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: Complicated controls/menu

Overall, a great upgrade to my Canon 20D. Very responsive with nice image quality, but you do need good lenses and proper technique to get the most out of this camera. High iso performance is better than my 20D and the new lcd screen is great. I'm primarily use my 50D for portraits, fine art still life, and copy work.

Blown Away Date: August 10, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, good battery life

I am a rank amatuer in the digital camara world and hesitated for quite a while between purchasing the Rebel T1i and the 50D DSLR with a Canon EF-S 18-200 IS Lens. I finally purchased the 50D with not one regret. I was, and still am blown away with the possibilities and features of this camera. If I had one wish it would be a better and more explicit book of instructions. After purchasing the 50D I met a person who happened to be a retired photographer and reporter and his best advise to me was "just go out and shoot pictures" which is what I did and that learning curve is getting to be less of an effort. As a 79 year old timer I am determined to master this equipment and have fun doing it. You did a great job CANON.

On a recient cruse I used my 50D with my 28 - 135 IS lense to photograph the dolphins as they were playing alongside the ship. They were a long way out but with the Canon software I was able to zoom in and print off beautiful 8x10's with the dolphins in full frame. I love this camera.

Great Equipment! Date: August 8, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: photoshop cs-2 cannot read the cr2 files directly.

I am delighted with my new Canon 50D body. I use it with a 24-105 IS L lens and a 100-400 IS L lens. I do a good deal of available light meeting photography, aviation photography and law enforcement work. It is excellent with much better noise reduction at high ISO than my 20D, although the maximum 12,500 is very noisy. Even in darkened rooms during a presentation I get great pictures without disturbing the audience with flash.
Although I do not often use the live view, it is very useful in some situations. The resolution is excellent. It is all I could ask for.

Outstanding Camera Date: August 8, 2009
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Solid Operation, advanced customization
Cons: no infrared remote

This was a big extravagance for me, but I have no buyer regrets. Even though it is a little heavy, the wider body rests more comfortably in my hand than the Rebel XTi I used previously. My hand actually aches less with this camera after a long shoot. The 15.1 MP is a big plus to allow for more cropping without loss of quality. The high flexibility in customizing this camera is a big plus, especially the ability to override the AEB cancellation that occurs when the flash is activated or the camera is turned off with the Rebel XTi. The high speed shooting is incredible with a 45 MB/s UDMA enabled card. It focuses noticeably better in lower light than the rebel does with the same lenses. My only gripe is: it doesn't have an infrared or other economical wireless remote. This was very useful for macro shoots.

I bought a Canon 50d with 18-200mm lens a few months ago and I could not be happier with it! It works beautifully, the lens is great, the image quality is incredible, and I have experienced no problems. I love this camera and recommend it to everyone. Thank you Canon, I am definitely a customer for life.

What More Could I Want! Date: August 7, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, size and weight suit me
Cons: Complicated controls/menu

I don't believe that I'll ever need a camera with more capability and performance than the 50d. I rated it only 4 for features because it does not have video which some (but not I) would see as a deficiency. I use the 50d largely on vacation trips. I try to go to scenic places and I want the best pictures I can afford. The 50d serves this purpose admirably. It's a bit heavy. I like that because it enables me to hold it more steady. Light cameras seem to wander all around in my hands. It's also large. Once again, that fits my hands. I use a monopod a great deal and, with the 50d mounted, I can wrap myself around the camera and monopod very comfortably and minimize shake. The LCD monitor is even better than I thought it would be. However, in high temperatures (such as in a recent trip through the Panama Canal), the sweat on my nose smeared it up a bit. This is a minor distraction and doesn't prevent a clear view of the picture. It just requires periodic cleaning. The biggest gripe I have about the camera, which should indicate how little I can find wrong with it, is the position of the off/on switch. I keep reaching with my index finger for the switch where it is on my Digital Rebel. But I often have to take the 50d away from my face to turn it on. Not good. The 50d produces beautiful images. I took a dramatic sunset off the coast of Colombia (with a Canon 17-40mm L lens) and the reds and yellows jump out at you. I take very few low-light pictures but I did try a few at the entrance to the Panama Canal at ISO 800 and considerably before the sun came up. I was absolutely amazed at how nicely they came out. This has encouraged me to do a lot more of this. I think that that's one of the side benefits of the 50d. It does so many things so well that it encourages you to become a better photographer. What more could anyone want?

Solid camera for the advanced user Date: August 1, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: noisy

I started with the 20D, upgraded to the 40D and then the 50D.

Slipping into the 50D was easy after using the prior Canon cameras listed above.

I enjoy the 15MP resolution and the 6.4 FPS, as I normally use the camera to shoot at air shows. The quick shutter action and the 1.6 focal length make this a great body to use with either a 70~200 or better yet with the 100~400 Canon lens. It really helps bring the fast jets in close and clear.

I'm still not 100% happy with the noise level in low lite when not using a flash. I still find myself going to post processing, which normally takes the noise out of the equation without degrading the photo in most cases.

Would I recommend this camera to friends? You betcha'!

Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation
Cons: strong learning curve

I'm really happy about this investment. This is my first Canon SLR and it's more than a hand full for me since I'm a novice. I went on a cruise to Alaska for 7 days and took over a thousand pictures (8GB CF), the clarity was incredible. I think that this is a great camera for someone who wants to enter the SLR camera series. Can't wait to use it this year at Indianapolis MotoGP race in Sept.

I am very impressed with the 50D, the best camera I have ever owned. I took picture using my 70-400mm L lens of a garbage can about 100 meters from where I was sitting and I could see dirt specks on the can when I viewed the picture full size. I took a series of pictures from 200 through 3200 ISO using the in camera noise reduction and the pictures were nearly sharp all the way through 3200. With a 8 x 10 view they are almost the same as 200 Iso. Shooting at low iso through 800 I do not have to use software to sharpen the images like I had to with my 10D using the same lenses. Thanks Canon.

I am very satisfied with this camera as a semi-professional photographer. It has great features with programmable configuration keys. Image quality is excellent at most lighting conditions. Canon has really improved there high ISO noise filtering - but still is a bit behind the other whose name shall not be mentioned. Price is steep for the armature, but about right for those transitioning into pro photography. This is my Fifth canon camera and is a great choice for the next step prior to the Mark series.
