Good Reason to Stay With A Canon Date: May 7, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, eff lenses are compatible, can be used as soon as the battery is charged.

I have been using Canon products for photography and film for decades now. When I first purchased my Canon Rebel 35mm, I thought it was the end all be all to cameras. Then I purchased the Canon EOS 50D. It is an amazing camera with so many features and options that I am still learning with it going on 6 months. It is an amazing camera. The Rebel and the 50D instilled so much confidence of Canon products in me that when I went to purchase a film camera, I chose the Canon XL2. What another amazing camera! Canon was so smart, that they made their EFF lenses compatible with their new SLR digital cameras. Canon is definitely way ahead of the curve when considering their consumers as they design newer and more advanced products. To put it simply.... IF YOU DON'T HAVE A CANON.... YOU DON'T HAVE A CAMERA!!!

Dissappointment Has Set In Date: May 6, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
Cons: Poor image quality, noisy

There are many great features of the 50D. It's AF especially in Al Servo is superior. The LCD is great. However, I am very disappointed with the noise, especially in low light situations and with darker backgrounds. I tested it from ISO 400-3200 from no noise reduction to the nighest noise reduction possible and was unhappy with the results. This is my third 50D and they all seem to have the same issues with noise reduction.

For birds in flight, this body cannot be beat. However, I find myself relying on my 40D for other photography which defeats the purpose of the new camera body.

Having use a 20D for almost 5 years, the 50D is nothing but fantastic. Most amazing is the live view which allows me to hoist the camera on a monopod over 9 feet and getting the shot 1st time!

Very Versatile..excells in all situations Date: May 5, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life

I feel like the D50 is an exceptional all around camera, weither on the sports field, in the parks,in the studio..or just hanging with the family. I would like to see a little more versatility in some of the pre-set modes...sometimes someone a little more of an amature than I am,being an amature myself, uses the camera. But, all in all the camera operates flawlessly, and as advertized. A very good link between the advanced novice,to the semi-pro and to the begining pro. Kudo's to CANON!!!

Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

I am not a professional photographer but I really want to take professional looking photos. This camera makes me look like I actually know what I am doing when it comes to photography. I love it so much more than my digital Rebel. The LCD display helps me ensure that I have taken a good picture and I find the settings easy to use. I am just really pleased.

Absolutely Stunning Date: May 3, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Quick Start-up time, easy to use

I have been shooting photographs for nearly 30 years and digital images since 1990. I have owned 5 different digital cameras in that time period and have enjoyed all of them. However, none of them have had even the slightest comparison to my new 50D. I image quality is absolutely stunning, the speed of operation is superb. The menu system is highly intuitive and the 'bang for the buck' is more than adequate. This is my first Canon product but it won't be my last!

I love this DSLR however Date: May 1, 2009
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, good battery life
Cons: Complicated controls/menu, Slow Start-up time, Difficult to use, Heavy/Bulky

I love the quality and the image sharpness of this camera, be aware that your lens attached to this camera will also affect the image quality of your photos. I love this camera I own the 20D and the photos are night and day comparing them side by side. The only thing I don't like is that the sensor needs cleaning constantly, Canon need to come up with a camera that is weather hardy. Be aware you will spend a lot of money having this camera cleaned by a registered Canon provider. If you are prepared for that buy this camera it is awesome to use for a educated photographer. Lenses though are a plus choose your lenses carefully, this camera can only do so much. It is an expensive hobby and know that going into it however, I do love this camera and the excellent semi pro features it provides.

Just too much noise Date: May 1, 2009
Pros: Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: Poor image quality, noisy

The specs on the 50D look good, but after using it for a while now, it has been a total disappointment. The problem is noise. The 50D does not compare favorably to other cameras in its class or to its predecessors (like the 40D). The recent firmware release (version 1.0.6) seemed to help with a really severe vertical banding problem in low light situations. Until I bought the 50D I would not have imagined Canon making a camera with banding problems. My 40D outperforms the 50D at virtually all speeds and it is significantly better with noise at ISO ratings above 400. And my 30D out performs the 50D at ISO 800 and 1000 for noise (and yes, I recognize there is a big difference in pixel density,etc.). Unless you really have to have the 15megapixels I strongly suggest you buy the 40D. I also suspect the problems with the 50D are why the 40D is still being made and sold. I truly love Canon products, but the 50D just isn't worthy of the brand.

Canon 50D Date: April 30, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Solid Operation

I replaced my Digital Rebel with the Canon 50D, which was a long time waiting. I have been taking photos for over 30 years--going from film to digital--total transformation. The Canon 50D exceeded my expectations and over-whelmed with its quality and features. I am like a kid at Christmas again. Thank you Canon.

Great camera! Date: April 27, 2009
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, can use my old lenses., very fast both fps and in camera operation!, fast learning curve especially from old 35mm.
Cons: no video

I am totally satisfied with this camera. I think they are making an understatement when they say that it "bridges the gap between ametuer and pro." The 50d can definetly be used for professional photography. As soon as I hefted this camera, I knew it was solid, and built well, and also it is very comfortable. The battery lasts quite a while, and aren't as expensive as one would think. The fps burst rate is incredibly fast as well. I would recommend this camera to the ametuer going pro, or even the seasoned pro would needs a smaller aps c sized camera as a back up rather than dragging those huge full frames around.

Im only a beginner in photography and have not taken any classes on it. I purchased this camera only a few days ago and im already in love with it. The 28-135 standard lens is excellent. Im in love with every feature on this camera. I dont think i would trade it for anything else other than an upgrade with Canon. Its deffinatly worth its weight in gold.

Pros: Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, easy to use
Cons: needed to microadjust lens

The Camera is solid and dependable. I am adicted to taking pictures with it. At first I was disappointed with picture quality. Then I made a micro-adjustment (see page 180 of manual) on my old EF lens and the camera came alive. I think however to get full use of the 15 megapixals I will have to invest in an L series lense.

This is my second DSLR and I really enjoy this purchase. I am blown away by the rocking performance. I started learning DSLR photography for about an year. Especially once I saw the pictures from this camera, I wanted to learn the photography to get 100% out of this camera features, amazing quality. My wife is using the DSLR first time and she feels very easy to take the picture with the standard functions, she loves the quality. Ofcourse she complaints the heaviness. I am using this for the fast two weeks, trying to learn the capabilities which are many. I love the resolution on the LCD and the fast FPS are great to capture my kids dances, sports and their each moment, particularly my little ones. Though it costs bit more, I never regret of this purchase. I am thinking to purchase the L series lens once I lget good hold on the camera features. I strongly recommend this product even for the starters (like me). It will rock, you love it .

Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: no control of iso settings in auto modes

I have found that the 50D far exceeds the 40D and the
40D walked all over the D200 in ease of operation. Overall, for the bucks the 50D is number One. Being a long time Canon user 20D, 30D, 40, and since it came out, the 50D, I have no problems with the menu and controls. The battery life is good, all auto modes work exceptionally well, with one (1) exception -- you have NO control over ISO settings, they are automatic. There are times that I would like to maintain a 100 or a 200 ISO setting in the AUTO modes, but the 50D denies me that ability - So even if might otherwise utilize an auto mode, I am forced to select AV, TV, etc. Other than that I consider it a supurb SLR., you can't go wrong with it.

Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

I started out in digital photography with a 1 megapixel point and shoot. I moved to DSLR when the Digital Rebel came out. I have had a 20D and a 40D before getting my EOS 50D. The increased resolution was the reason I got the 50D. My EOS 50D with a Canon EF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS lens is a hard combination to beat.

The ability to start with limited dslr knowledge was facilitated by the "full auto mode"; however, the canon 50D allowed me to expand and grow to the full creative modes within two weeks. Excellent pictures and consistent results.
The magnesium alloy around the stainless steel body with environmental sealing helps protect the 50D from the elements.
HDMI works flawlessly with a HD tv.
The camera was engineered and built very well.
