Outstanding Camera - Forever a Canon user
Date: December 10, 2009
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, easy to use
Cons: different battery grip than the xi series cameras
This is the 3rd Canon DSLR I have purchased. I had the Rebel XT and then sold that for the XTI (still have that one as a second unit) Now I have the T1i and I love it. Canon does it again with a feature packed unit at a fair price. While I am not a professional user I am more that just the guy at the party with the big camera. This unit is very easy to use and the quality of the pictures are second to none. Paired with the right lens this camera will service your every photographic need. Extremely quick start-up time and the very quick recovery tiime between shots. Feed this camera with a high quality SD card and shoot until your finger hurts. There is no limit to your photos! Great buy, Great camera. Thanks Canon for another strong offering.

It does exactly what it needs to do
Date: March 12, 2010
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings
This was my first SLR digital camera, after facing the torturous decision whether or not to upgrade from film. As a poor college student, a camera further up on Canon's lines was out of the question, so I settled for the T1i for the amount of megapixels, the ability to shoot videos, and the overall camera weight. I had used (but not owned) the Rebel XSi, and was pleased with what it could do, but I knew from my old film camera (the Canon EOS 1V, a beautiful camera) what Canon could really do in terms of features.
You do pay for what you get, and there is no doubt in my mind that the Rebel T1i is a fantastic camera. It has been my constant companion through the past couple months, going through all the season and working beautifully at each. The image quality is present much more so than in the lesser Rebel models.
However the decision to buy this camera for video was almost moot. I have used video only once since getting the camera, and even that was only good for setting up on a tripod and observing a small creek. My opinion might change if I had professional video editing software to increase contrast, but right now, the video feature of the camera isn't really that useful at all.
One thing that I do miss from the old film camera is the full frame sensor. Innocuous details from the borders of the image manage to snake their way in if you aren't too careful with the composition of the photograph.
In short, buy this camera if you can't afford the heavier Canon models. It works extremely well for what it has to do. I have no regrets buying it and would do so again in a heartbeat

Great Pro/Amateur Camera!
Date: March 10, 2010
Pros: Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, many extras available for this camera
This camera is wonderful for any amateur or pro; it has a fully automatic setting that produces high quality pictures (for the novice) and it can save preference settings for the pros that know what they like. This camera is packed with useful features that make it fun to use.
This is my first Canon, and I am glad I spent a little extra money on this rather than another brand. Its super fast; turn it on and you are ready to shoot - that fast! The night shots it produces are stunning! I have never been more pleased with a camera!
Thank you Canon, you have made an excellent camera that is easy and fun for anyone to use!

Excellent buy!!
Date: March 8, 2010
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable
WOW!! I've been under the impression that professional quality photos would cost me a fortune my entire life. Canon proved me 100% wrong! I take my T1i gadget bag with me everywhere now, just in case. The camera fires up and is ready to shoot almost instantly, and the creative-auto function lets me grab pro quality shots on the fly when I don't have time to meter and measure. Haven't used the video too much (didn't buy it for that), but the video I have taken was very high quality. Building up a lens collection has been fun, and I'm looking forward to taking lots of great pictures over the years. Thanks Canon!! The T1i is a winner in my book!

Canon T1i
Date: March 8, 2010
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu
Cons: Missing features/settings
As a photography student, I found this camera to meet all the requirements of my class criteria for minimum standards. Very easy to use and the controls are handy for manual metering. Only thing is that in manual mode, you can't set the meter time. It's hard wired for 4 sec. Being new at this I need a little more time to think about what I'm seeing. But it forces you to learn quicker. As long as you are changing the shutter speed or aperture setting, the meter view stays on...so that's one way around it. I even called the Canon support and they verified this for me.

Better than Average Entry Level
Date: March 8, 2010
Pros: Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, easy to use
Cons: Poor build quality
The T1i is a very excellent overall camera. On Canon's level, it lines up slightly above the entry level category, but in my mind, not up into the semi-pro cameras.
My only real complaint about this camera is, it's like holding a toy. Confidence is a big part of taking pictures, which you can gain part of that from how the camera feels in your hand. That being said, I'm over six foot. . .with slightly bigger hands. So it might be all right for some of you.
If you are looking at the XSi, don't get it, get this if you can spend the money. Most people say the increased resolution on the camera isn't worth the price. But that's only one aspect of the increase.
This things runs way faster than the XSi, so if you don't care about speed, that's fine. Don't underrate the importance of the new LCD screen, it's way beautiful, and you might have a chance of seeing how clear your images will be. Which also attributes to the intuitive color changing menu.
AND REALIZE, if you ever wanted to use L glass with this bad boy, you can and it will produce beautiful images. This would not be possible with the XSi.
Overall, I am very satisfied with this camera. I have produces some excellent images!

High Quality and Great Feature Set
Date: March 7, 2010
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation
Cons: Complicated controls/menu
Only complaint is the learning curve for "other-than-auto" settings, but using them is necessary. High quality and many important features. I bought only the body because I already had a tele-zoom lens from a film EOS, and it is higher quality than the kit lens. I am surprised at the decent battery life given the autofocus and other systems. I don't feel that the plastic body and components downgrade the quality enough to be significant - probably would feel differently if I were using it every day all day. I haven't felt the need for the IS lenses for now after years of long exposures with film and other digital cameras.

We started with canon over 25 years ago and have not turned back. We purchased two T1i 's one for the wife and one for the daughter. We are looking forward to using these camera for many years because Canon has superior quality and workmanship in their products.

The second DSLR i have purchased and love it. Moved up from an XS and saw such a difference + the video option (although it isn't the greatest recording). Definitely would recommend it to anyone.

This was my first step into a non point and shoot digital camera. I really enjoy using it, it has all the features that the point and shoots are missing. I find it easy to use, for someone who is not a pro, and it creates great shots.

Amazing Camera!
Date: March 5, 2010
Pros: Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, easy to use
Cons: shows "busy" when trying to take numerous pictures
I LOVE this camera! It is the first SLR I've purchased and after much research I decided on this one. I have small children so taking a picture w/ out one of them moving is almost impossible. No more blurry pictures! I was sick at the thought of spending so much money on a camera but as soon as I saw the quality of the pictures I was taking I fell in love. I am so happy I will have beautiful pictures of my kids for years to come. I haven't learned everything about the camera yet but I'm sure there's many more fascinating features. It was definitely worth the investment. And as an added bonus, I can take HD videos on the camera! So there's no need to lug around a video camera bag anymore.

Great Camera!
Date: March 5, 2010
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: picture display not avalable in all modes
I have for years shot 35 mm format, still do, and had point and shoot digitals for take-along cameras. I finally decided to get away from the point and shoot digitals and get a digital slr, at long last. I am a person that researches fairly thoroughly before I buy. The Canon T1i was the obvious choice. For the features, quality, and ease of use it would be difficult to find anything better for the price. If there is a better camera for the price, I have not found it. The only thing about this camera I have found that I do not like is that the monitor only displays composition in certain modes. To be able to view and compose in all modes would be nice, but this is a minor drawback. Everything else about this camera is great! I would definetly recommend it.

Canon can do better on this camera
Date: March 4, 2010
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD
Cons: Missing features/settings
This camera takes still photos as good as other cameras do. However, it cannot manually control aperture and shutter speed under movie mode. I am very disappointed with Canon for that. I expect Canon should do better if movie mode is included. A firmware should be issued to update the manual control during recording. Without manual control, there is no point to buy a DSLR.

I got my T1i in the mail about 2 months ago and haven't put it down since! I love this camera. I had a film SLR and had been tinkering with it again over the summer and decided to invest in a new digital SLR. I read reviews online for hours and the only two complaints I found that were common with the T1i was the "cheap" feel and that it was difficult to hold. I find that it doesn't in the least bit feel cheap and I'm really short so I have no problem holding onto the camera. I recently took 300 pictures at a large auto show for over 3 hours. I didn't even drain the first battery and I was taking my pictures at the highest resolution. All of my pictures turned out great, I have used almost all of the different modes including full auto and the menus are easy to navigate through. I'm 110% happy with this camera and can't wait to use it for years to come!!

My first Digital SLR
Date: March 4, 2010
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, the picture quality is clear, easy to record
I have a Canon T80 that I used for years until I recieved a digital point and shoot for a present three years ago. Since I retired, I have traveled around the world, taking pictures with this camera. While I enjoyed the ease of this camera, it wasn't until a recent trip to Costa Rica when a companion prepared a slide show from her digital slr, that I made the decision not to take another vacation with only the point and shoot. Her pictures were far superior to mine in clarity and distance. When I returned home I purchased a Canon T1i and haven't put it down. I practice daily using the various modes and the CDs that came with it. I am learning how to take professional quality pictures and edit using zoombrowser, picture style editor and photo professional. The video recording feature is definitely a plus because I love to be able to playback events with my granddaughter.

Perfection Is One Feature Away
Date: March 4, 2010
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
The Canon T1i is more than I ever thought a camera could be. It does need one more feature to be a perfect camera, and that is to be able to view the image from the screen in both Basic and Creative Modes. Several years ago I suffered a spinal cord injury and although I have use of my legs my balance has been permanently compromised, and it is difficult for me to use the viewfinder on the camera safely. I have also found that most people prefer using the screen rather than the viewfinder.

rebel T1i kit
Date: March 4, 2010
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
As it was finally time to replace the small digital "pocket" camera that we'd had, I turned to Canon, being a long time fan of their cameras ( going back to the manual focus FD lens type cameras ) and owning an EOS Elan 7, have a number of Canon lenses on hand. I am not disappointed with my Rebel T1i . Easy to use out of "full automatic" mode ( which is great for most users- and you can get stunning results in full automatic) it is perfect for those shots I need to see right away. All my EOS lenses are compatable, and I now have increased flexibility.
My only disappointment is the fact that I owned my T1i only a short time before the T2i was released. It can only be better still!

Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
