Pros: 20x optical lens is great, colors are good, dependability bar-none
Cons: low light capabilities could be better
I purchased the GL1 over 10 years ago and it still is working great! I have used it mostly for taping gymnastics and diving events. When I bought the GL1 I was most interested in a lens that could optically get me up close to my subjects from the bleachers etc. The 20x optical has worked perfectly for me. The quality has been bar-none! If there is a drawback it would be its low light capabilites, however this has never been too much of a problem for me.
I have made many DVDs for friends, family and clients and would recomend this camcorder to anyone. I currently am thinking about the GL2 as should any person considering entry professional camcorder model.

Pros: Compact Design, excellent image quality, Easy Computer Connectivity, Accurate, Vivid Colors, good battery life, Ergonomic/comfortable to hold, durable, easy to use
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, no adjustable audio, no color bar generator, menus difficult to access
I received mine as a gift and it still works great after nine years..It helped me win two awards! Sure I've had to have it realigned and a part replaced, but what the hey. Canon was always prompt with repairs. The GL1's main strength is its lens and ccd's. I had one client say his face was too clear! It still delivers great looking video and my clients are always pleased. The GL1's controls are laid out very well for a camera of it's size and tape loading is a snap! I've had television photographers walk up to me during a shoot and say "That's a good camera"! The drawbacks are no manual zoom, no adjustable audio and low light performance could be better. A great investment!
