Very Disappointed!!
Date: January 12, 2010
Pros: great design, support is great
Cons: Dim LCD, Poor Low-Light Performance, Short battery life, Complicated controls/menu, small lcd screen, poor zoom, poor in low light
Camera is gorgeous, sleek & sophisticated. Compared to all the other models available, I am extremely disappointed when it comes to performance! I wished I had waited another 6 months and I would have gotten so much more bang for my buck. This cam was pricey, my image sensor, lcd window, has already went out on it, the first trip to the beach! The view finder is (lcd screen) is so extremely small, it is hard to see- it's not much bigger than looking through the eyeview finder! It's zoom doesn't zoom enough for most family photo's, like sporting events, trips to the beach, etc. This cam is wonderful for closeup events. The photos are excellent, video, too, but I would not buy this camera again. Does very poor in low lit situations!

I take this camera everywhere, and it never lets me down. I love not having to buy batteries, and the size is perfect.

A Real Work Horse
Date: July 1, 2009
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, good battery life, durable
Cons: Dim LCD, Heavy/Bulky
I purchased the unit in 2003 and have had excellent results with the S400. The only drawback naturally is the screen size but with the view finder I find that I have no problems even in bright sunlight that washes out the screen. Since we live near the beach, with beautiful white sand, that feature often comes in handy.
Over the years we have taken hundreds of photos and short video clips and always have great results (except for our own mistakes of course). Neither my wife nor I are even advanced novices and the camera couldn't be easier to operate.
The battery still holds a good charge and for a six (6) year old rechargable I am told that is excellent.
Great job Canon...hopefully the new SD1100is that I purchased for my wife's birthday does as well. I also own (since 1999) an Elan 7 that now hardly sees the light of day...I'm going for the new Rebel T1i that virtually packs a D50 in an economically priced product. I'll review that one soon I hope.

Solid Little Camera
Date: December 21, 2008
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
This camera has been all over North America and Europe. It has been dropped, drooled on by baby, sat on, packed in luggage and more. It still takes great photos, although newer cameras exceed its 4mp limit. My only complaint is that it can be slow to react when I hit the button for a photo. I have missed some photo opportunities with my kids because they change expressions faster than the camera can react. I'm currently in the market to upgrade, and intend to test the new Elphs. I'm sure the response speed has improved. I doubt I'll consider other brands. My S400 will become our backup camera, and I'm sure it will be with us many more years.

Love this Camera, works very well, but just don't try and change the settings in there. Over all this camera is great.
