I purchased the iP5000 six or eight years ago and it still performs great. As my experience with digital photography has grown, I have continued to improve my equipment, particularly my camera lenses. Over the past year I have been considering a higher-level printer and, largely because of my experience with the iP5000, I just ordered a 9000 Mark II. I plan to continue using my iP5000 for common 4" x 6" 's and other general printing, both photo and documents.

I run a photo web site and sell many photos, when I bought my first 5000 I was so impressed with it I went and bought a second one right a way. I think I 've done 4000 8.5 x 11's and they still crank out. Bought a 1p6600D as a back up. Junk. very disappointed and expensive.

The 3eBK nozzle on my ip5000 is partially clogged and no amount of cleaning seems to help. What can I do? Until this problem arose I was very happy with this product.

Pros: reliable, Compact Design, durable, Low Ink Consumption, Lightweight/Portable, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use
I have put my IP 5000 through some serious tests over the last few years. It has been with me to a variety of locations and operated extremely well under some pretty bad conditions. Using a power inverter and printing from the back seat of my truck in very extreme temps and sometimes not so clean environment this printer has proven to be my work horse. It does a great job and is very good as far as ink consumption. I prefer this one over my Canon I 9900 unless I'm printing large format pics like a 13 x 19. This printer gets 2 thumbs up!

I love this printer and i had it for the past 5 years with out a problem I faithly use cannon ink under the warrenty peroid and then after market ink after that and the only time I ever had a problem is when I unpluged it for a week and half to get new carpet and paint and when I reinstaled it I found the head was cloged which is prevented in an ink jet by a small electric warming circut
I do a heavy volume of printing such as booklets and pictures. This printer is the most trouble free that I have ever used and it is my 10th printer (including 3 Lasers). My pictures are excellent and have a good color It is a workhorse for me. It does use a lot of ink but is on a par with my other printers. I wish I was able to get another just like it. However there are none available as far a I can tell. I would definitely recommend this printer.

The Pixma 5000 is a workhorse, very dependable, easy to use, built with quality and performance in mind. This is the first Canon I have purchased and if it ever quits I will purchase another.

Pros: Compact Design, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, Low Ink Consumption, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors
I have been in "IT" for 30 years and have never run into a color printer as good as this one. I have printed several thousand (yes 1000's) of CD/DVD labels over the last 2.5 years and have never had a bad hair day with this printer. I just ran into the feared "waste ink absorder" warning message and found I could clean the absorbers and replace the print head with NO EFFORT. And now, I am printing better pictures than I ever thought possible with a personal printer. I have had HP, EPSON, LEXMARK,.... and none have even come close to this level of performance and quality and life! I hope this printer never breaks or wears out. I would have to retire to a rest home.
Pros 1. cheap ink replacements 2. Reliable 3. great looking prints 4. small footprint Cons 1. Slow to start up 2. print output slow sometimes 3. could be quieter

I have had my Pixma for almost three years, and it has served flawlessly. It has a few compatibility issues with Mac OS X, but I worked around those. Over the years, I have owned a number of Canon products and come back each time because of their excellent customer service (you can actually reach them on them telephone!) and well-made products.

I have been using the ip5000 for nearly two years. I t has been fairly reliable, and the print quality is good. When I first bought it, I was dismayed to find out that networking the printer was not supported. My plan was to connect it to a print server, and to use it with several computers. Eventually I did get it to work, first with an SMC router with a built in printserver and currently with a linksys PSUS4 wired printserver fot USB. I'm not an expert; so it has not been easy to set the sytem up. I just bought a new laptop with 64-bit windows vista, and I have managed to print to the ip5000 through the printserver. I had to consult a laptop forum that offered some useful advice. Although the printer is working from the new laptop with vista, the data transfer is much slower than it is on our 32-bit xp pcs or the macs on the system--although I installed the latest vista 64-bit driver for the ip5000. The macs were initially an issue since there was no network driver for the ip5000. I used a driver for another Canon printer--it gives tolerable results, but it isn't perfect. Maybe it's time to buy a new printer.
