My 580 EX worked great at first. It's been a year since I began using it with my 5D. I'm a professional photographer and use the Speedlite with the Gary Fong diffuser. The pix turn out lovely! HOWEVER, after a year of use I have found a problem with the flash not firing when using it for vertical photos. I'm not sure if there's a short in the wiring or what, but the flash completely shuts down when I twist it into the vertical position. For the price, I'm disappointed.

Pros: Superior build quality, Fast recycling time, Good Exposure performance, quiet
The 580 EX II is the finest, most technically advanced strobe I have ever owned and used. It has never misfired and has always been within the parameters of my shooting. Each exposure has been almost perfect, without over or under exposing any pictures I have made. Along with some of the finest glass of the digital age, the Canon 580 EX II is a winning combination. It is as professional as you would like it to be and as you would make it to be. It is built to last, as well. I would not hesitate to purchase one and neither should you.
