Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, durable
Cons: Short battery life
I've used this camera for more than 4 years. It takes amazing pictures- very clear and always beautiful. A few months ago, I accidently dropped my camera in water for about 30 seconds. After, I couldn't see the image on the camera, so I took the batteries out and left it there for 3 days. After 3 days, the camera cured itself. Of course I made a promist at the time, if the camera comes back to life, I'll always have a Canon Camera. Now even after water damage, the camera takes excellent pictures.
One problem I have w/ the camera is that it doesn't take good pictures at night. Day pictures= excellent. Night= so-so~

Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, durable
I rec'd this camera as a gift from my husband in 2005, and I have taken over 16,000 photos with it - yes 16,000! I have completed albums and made books from these photos for personal use. It replaced a 35 mm camera with numerous lens. I also purchased the underwater camera case for snorkeling. It worked perfectly. t he camera has held up beautifully and I can carry it in my purse so as to not miss any photo o'. I am NEVER w/o my camera. Literally. Just recently I have noticed a slight fuzziness to my photos and this is concerning. The original battery holds its charge but the back up battery, which I have replaced twice, never holds a charge long. I love the compact size. My hubby wanted me to get a bigger camera but size was critical to me as it had to fit in my purse. If I replace it, it will have to have the same qualities if not more, and be about the same size. I regret that another camera may not fit in the underwater case I bought which was VERY expensive but worth it.

Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable, excellent value
I purchased this camera for my wife more than 5 years ago. Although my wife is a smart women, she isn't very electronic device savvy. This camera is feature packed and was very easy for my wife and I to use. The image quality was great!
The camera finally died one week ago while on a trip to Italy. My wife noticed that all of her images had a blue tint and the LCD screen stopped working. It was a good thing that I also brought a camera (my Canon 30D).
After we arrived home I purchased a PowerShot SD1200 IS to replace the SD 500. I haven't used the SD1200 IS and I'm not sure if it has as many features as the SD 500. But I will soon find out.

I seldom write reviews, but I have had this camera for over 2 years and nothing compares to the picture quality you get with the Canon SD500. Its worth every penny.

Pros: Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: Difficult to use, Complicated controls/menu, Missing features/settings, Poor Low-Light Performance, cannot date stamp in all modes.
While the camera has numerous features, typical users won't use most of them. It's tough to use many of its features, and the fact that you cannot date stamp in all modes is just ridiculous. Picture quality is good.

Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: Missing features/settings, not so great image quality
I have had mine for almost 4.5 years. It was good to me as my first nice camera. I now need a new one, the features are good but not great. The images are fairly grainy but still good. It is incredibly durable. mine has been dropped down a mountain while mtn. biking, fell in the pool during a swim meet, the strap was ripped off some how, and it still works like i just got it yesterday.
Good Durable camera, not the highest quality.
