Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality
Cons: Dim LCD, Poor Low-Light Performance, Short battery life
Flash is horrible slow to recover in low light conditions. But for the money I spent on it it takes wonderful pictures and has great features. So if you looking for a budget camera its not a bad buy.

Cons: Short battery life
According to Wikipedia, the A530 was released in Feb of 2006. Mine was a present from my father. It has served me well, better then any camera I have ever owned. I ride horses, quads, and dirtbikes with it in tow, handing on my hand, taking pics and video during my rides - I have dropped it, it's missing tons of paint, but still takes great shots. The clarity and resolution are FANTASTIC if you set it to SuperFine Large. Plenty of resolution to blow up a pic into a poster, which I have done. I do lots of graphics, and have taken many product shots with the macro lens. I do clean it on a regular basis with alcohol and q-tips, since I am very rough on it, but overall it has been my workhorse and the optical resolution on SuperFine mode is EXCELLENT. I own a cell phone with an 8.1 megapixel camera on it, but this 5 megapixel Cannon camera takes far crisper shots. Totally impressive for such an old camera ..... when this one finally dies I will buy one of their newer models for sure!

Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, has optical viewfinder not just digital screen
Cons: Short battery life, quality control not up to canon standards
The first one I got had problem of the automatic-closing lens cover sometime not opening fully. Returned it to the store. Second one had, after a few months, the same problem. Factory fixed that under warrenty. Now that I am out of warrenty the camera is draining its batteries very quickly (like maybe 10 minutes of operation.

Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, takes bumps drops and knocks without any issues!
Cons: cold weather lagging
I recieved this camera as a gift before a big vacation. It took me awhile to get comfortable with many of the features but this camera took great pictures from the start without the lagging problems I had with another brand. The pictures have always been high quality, often people comment I should enter contests. I have had this camara 3 years without any problems. Rechargeable batteries were devoured by this camera but I like the ability to use 2 AA batteries. With disposable lithium batteries (i use energizer Lithium for high output devices) I get 100s of pics and hours of review time without any problems.

Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
3 Years ago I purchased 2 A530's to document maintenance repairs in an OE tire manufacturing facility.
One of them has well over 9,000 photos taken and is still in daily operation.
The other one developed a problem with the lens extending after about 14,000 photos. (Warranty work?)
Both have been used by mechanics only, dropped many time and live in tool boxes most of the time.
Even when i first received this camera as a Christmas gift 2 years ago it gave me problems from the get go. I returned it to the store because I could take about 10 pictures and the battery light would come on. I have endured this camera for a while now but am on the lookout for a new and better one. Do not buy unless you want to spend tons on regular or even rechargeable batteries takes great pictures but battery life is horrible!!!!
This is my first digital camera. It gives very accurate color. Prints can be enlarged to 8x10 without too much loss in detail, altho 5x7 & 6x8 are best. The flash seems slow to charge up so it isn't point & shoot where flash is needed. It is bulky & doesn't fit in a T shirt Pocket. I have to go back to the manual frequently because I forget the many steps to do certain things. I would like more megapixels and a thinner size in my next camera. I haven't had any trouble in the 3 years since I bought it. It has amazing ability to take pictures in low or nearly dark conditions.

It is a wonderful camera.....Battery problem fixed
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, short battery life but can be fixed
I purchased it 2 years ago & took wonderful pictures for the past 2 years! I started to carry my A530 wherever I went.
When my A530 was 1.5 years old, It started giving me this "Low Power" signal after 3-5 pictures were taken. I was so frustrated about it for months. To solve the problem, I brought extra 2 sets of charger, 3 sets of 2700mA recharger batteries. Finally, I gave it up & ordered SD880. Then, I found out in the web that quite a few "battery problems" CANON Power Shot owners experienced can be solved by insert very thin sliced TOOTHPICK under the metal battery contact on the lid.
I think CANON should know this defective & modify it in next model!
Now, I just returned my SD880 after 400 pictures taken due to poor image quality. I am thinking to buy A590 because I know how to fix the "Battery Low" problems. :-)

Cons: Missing features/settings, Poor image quality, Heavy/Bulky, Short battery life
At first, I was really excited about this camera, mainly because it was my first digital camera. Time past and products became better and I started to think that I had wasted my time buying this product. I'm more for the compact versions and this is a little on the big side for me. The sound quality is poor and I am a video person, which is very hard with such a small screen and bad sound. The pictures turned out pretty good on paper, but they looked terrible on the screen (which is the main point of a digital camera.) I am now looking into some later versions of Canon such as the Powershot SD1100 IS and others similiar to that. If you could give me any suggestions about some later versions that would be great.
