After having the machine turned off for a while it can print one copy fine and the rest have enough dropout lines that it's unusable.

Pros: Compact Design, durable, Lightweight/Portable, Sharp Tones & Colors, works well but for problems noted in review., excellent photos easily fixed!
Cons: Difficult Setup, High Ink Consumption, set up for black ink it sometimes uses color--bad!, locked onto wrong size printing.
Recently, after 2+ years use, My MP 160 refused to print letter size--it is locked on 6.14 x 9.20 inches even though set up for letter. Have tried everything to correct with no luck. It also sneaks in color when set up to print black.
This has happened several times. Pretty expensive text work!
When it works okay it does great work on text and photos. Scans very well. Have found it very easy to use but for the stated problems.

Pros: Easy Setup, fast print speed, easy to use, reasonable ink consumption
Cons: Dull Tones & Colors, does not print good quality photos as suggested
The scan utility is very user friendly and it copies well, but the print quality is only average. Although the Pixma MP160 is not sold as a photo printer, Canon's own description claims that this machine prints photo lab quality photos. There is nothing true about that claim. Even using high quality photo paper - matte AND glossy - and with the appropriate settings, the colors are not true and the image is grainy. Overall clarity is average. I have a printer that cost half as much as this one, of another brand, that prints better quality photos than the MP160. Additionally, colors are not true on documents.
I have moved this printer to my office desk because it does scan, copy, and print documents very well (just keep in mind that if you are printing color documents the colors will probably be off). As for photos or image-based projects I would recommend you look for something with better image printing quality. For the price of this all-in-one though, I did not expect fabulous photos and, therefore, it is a good value for the money. It's a relatively inexpensive multi-function printer.
As for recommending this printer to a friend, it would depend on what their need would be. Casual use - yes; more detailed applications - no.

I bought a laptop and printer when I went back to college in 2004. The printer has outlasted 3 PCs and 3 Laptops. I have used it to electronicly document correspondence with the Veteran Affairs, numerous professional papers, and even homework with all my kids.(Even some friends as well)
When a copier went out at the school I emailed the document to my home PC, went and picked up the 40 copies, and returned to clas in less than 45 minutes.

Cons: High Ink Consumption
The lPIXMA-160 Multifunctional Inkjet printer has worked very well for all phases of my personal and business activities. Recently, when I upgraded to Windows 7 (64 bit) a Cannon teck sent me a very understgandable EMaIL ON HOW TO UPGRAdE the driver TO WINDOWS 7 AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY. I did have to reload the disk to get the Copier function and the manual on the computer but that worked out very well.
Thank you for mfg such a great printer!

Pros: Compact Design, Easy Setup, easy to use
Cons: Slow Print Speed, High Ink Consumption, unreliable, a record of paper feed issues (check the internet)
This printer worked pretty well for 2-1/2 years, but then ran into major paper feed issues. It would grab multiple sheets at once and jam. So we started loading only one sheet, but eventually it got so it would not load the one sheet most of the time. It would complain about a jam without loading the paper even a little.
Prior to that, I was generally happy, except that ink usage seemed overly high, the output was not always aligned (despite going through alignment procedures), and the beginning of a print cycle (or resetting an error, like out of paper of paper jam--even when the jam was a non-feed situation) was often very slow.

One of the most reliable all-n-one printer/scanners I've had. Initially had problems when I used it with an Apple laptop. To the person who blamed lack of page numbers on the MP160 - that is a user error not the fault of the printer.

My other AIO printer from other manufacturer bonked down, and was in need of a cheap replacement AIO. Glad I made the right choice with this one. Good scanning capabilities and printing for home use. Best of all, it doesn't cost a bomb.

Pros: durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors
I have found that many Inkjet based printers consume a lot of ink and this one is not any different. However, the overall performance of this unit is great. Excellent scanning (color tones). And, in may cases, I have found it to actually improve the scanned image when printing through this device.
Also, printers generally do not number the pages themselves. That function is found in your word processing software. So, ignore the review about page numbering.

Cons: High Ink Consumption, no option for numbering pages
There is no option for numbering pages. This function is so basic. How can they not include it? I have had this printer for 3+ years, trust me it is not there, and there is no fix for it in product support on cannons site. Large documents are difficult to manage without page numbers. I would not recommend this junk to anyone.

In it's 3rd year now and I would not trade it. I am very happy with the way it prints and scans. I have a small business and my invoices look great. I have never had a problem with it. The only draw back for me, If I want to scan opictures to my pc I need to change my printer settings. But I would not give up this product!
