The canon A560 was my very first digital camera when I bought it in 2007. I researched and bought and returned so many cameras trying to find one that I could be happy with. I bought this camera and have REFUSED to give it up. It is finally on its last leg and I still cannot find a camera that compares to it. I have used it to take photos for friends and no one can tell that they are not professional photos! It does not have a bunch of bells and whistles, but that is fine with me. I need good quality photos, not whistles. It is easy to switch modes, it is easy to get good resolution, the zoom on this camera and the quality in the zoom is unmatched. I will mourn this camera when it finally stops working.

Pros: battery life., quality of picture, ease of use, durability, great video
Cons: red eye reduction bad
I have had this camera for about three years. I have owned two other digital cameras and the A560 battery life is much better than my other three camers. I think the picture quality is great. The only problem we have really found was taking pictures in places like school gyms that have this type of lighting and the red eye reduction doesn't work very good. I love this camera

Pros: size, build quality, picture quality, manual features
Cons: power hog; battery power used up way too quickly, lacks a histogram, cannot recommend this camera
This is a sweet little camera. If you venture to explore its capabilities beyond the "AUTO" mode you'll find the A560 has quite a range of adjustments for exposure. color compensation and ISO settings; it can be operated in a very "manual" way for the person looking to extract the best performance from this camera.
Physically the camera is light and compact making it easy to carry along. It is one of the few pocket cameras still sporting a viewfinder ...something more traditional photographers might appreciate (although there is no exposure information displayed in the viewfinder).
It's one major *glaring* fault: it is a PowerHog. Fully charged batteries will not last long ...especially if you are using the flash or the AF assist beam ....you *will* be changing batteries on a long shoot session. Framing your shots using the LCD screen also eats up battery power at an amazing rate. If you get this camera invest in a quick charge AA battery kit and *always* have multiple sets of charged batteries in your pocket. I think the designers, in the interest of making the camera small and light, scrimped on the battery needs ....this camera should have had been made to use 4 batteries.
Another missing feature, and one that really would have boosted the functionality of the manual exposure compensation of the camera, is the ability to show a histogram. The manual makes mention of one but there is not one to be found anywhere.
Given the wealth of cameras of this genre on the market I would *not* recommend this camera because of ts poor battery life; it really hobbles what would otherwise be a very stellar camera.

We have owed many Canon cameras including the A40, Rebel EOS (35mm film), Digital Rebel XTi, A75, A95 and this camera - the A560. I love all my Canon cameras EXCEPT the A560. The A560 is by far the worst camera I've ever owned. The battery life is about ten pictures or three days, which ever comes first. Then you'll get the low battery warning. No matter what brand of batteries you purchase they won't last long in this camera. We only use this camera in an emergency and always tape new batteries to it when not in use. This camera is a waste of money. Unfortunately, we recommended this model to two other folks, one family member and one close friend. Now all three of us hate this camera. Fortunately, for us anyway, we have several other (Canon) cameras to use.

This camera's only fault is the fact that its so heavy but even that can be a plus. The picture quality is terrific it picks up even the tiniest things.

Cons: Short battery life, Heavy/Bulky, memory hog
My best friend bought me this camera as a Christmas present about two years ago in 2007. I have to tell you that this is one of the best presents I have ever gotten. No matter what setting or resolution you set for the pics, they always look crystal clear. The video quality is excellent, I use this camera a lot for taking my home movies and they look great when I burn them to DVD. The only drawback to the video is that it takes up a boatload of memory, I put in a 1 GB SD card and I could only get 16 minutes of video in high quality mode. The battery life on it is terrible, I've had days where I'm out taking pictures all day and by the end of the day I have low battery. Eventually I went out and bought some rechargeables because I was going through a set of batteries every other day. None the less it's a high quality camera and I still use it today

Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, Short battery life
I use this camera for both videos and pictures. It does great with both, but i end up having to change the batteries frequently when i use flash. Without flash it's nearly impossible to take a good picture. Another thing i wish it had was the ability to zoom while taking a video, because I would like to do some dramatic zooming in my random videos. Other than that, it's a great camera that does wonderful pictures of people and animals. It's very durable, I'm constantly dropping it and it still works like new! Overall, this is a pretty great camera that I would recommend to someone looking for a durable camera that can take family and random pictures.

Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, Heavy/Bulky
I have owned several Canon Powershot series cameras and they perform really well. I have had the A560 for about 2.5 years and it's about time I buy a smaller camera (i'm purchasing a Canon Elph SD940is).
The A560 is durable and it is still in great conditions! The only problem I have with the A560 is that it is too bulky to carry with me all the time. The fact that it uses AA batteries is actually great, the only thing is that you must have rechargeable batteries and a battery charger. Regular disposable batteries won't last for a day with a camera like this. The flash is great and the Macro mode is better than average. I don't think it performs very well in low-light conditions. Overall it's a good purchase if you don't mind the extra volume and if you have a battery charger.

Cons: Short battery life
We purchased the Cannon PowerShot A560 for our four children to use in their 4-H Photography project. The children do a great job remembering who took which picture. They've not fought over a picture that wasn't there's. Besides that we bought them each a SD card of their own, and wrote their names on the SD card for identification. We all love the camera, I even use it.
This is their 3rd Christmas with their camera, and I feel that the camera is on it's last journey. The lens cover doesn't always open correctly. You have to always make sure it opens. The camera is very durable, but I dropped the camera on a wire grind. When it hit the wire, at just the right angle, the battery door sprung open, and a very small piece of plastic, that was important at holding the door closed, broke off. I believe this is what has causes our camera to go through so many batteries, because the battery door stays slightly opened all the time now. Which I think causes the battery energy to escape.
Other than these 2 complaints. We love the camera, it produces great award winning picture for my children, and they have fun with it. Even when my youngest was 5 yrs old he could manage this camera.

Cons: Dim LCD, Complicated controls/menu, Flimsy Construction, quits in one year
The camera worked very well, until the last time used. When I went to turn it on, it would not do so. I checked all three batteries and it still would not work. I took it to a store that serviced cameras and the clerk said, '"the caners could not be fixed, that they had a problem with Cannon doing this.

The camera itself is wonderful. Great pictures, handy size, and durable. The only problem I've found is that the lens messes up - it only closes part of the way, and most of the time you have to manually open it when you want to take pictures.

I own a Canon Powershot A560 and overall have been really happy with it. I got it when I was first getting into photography. I take photos/videos of trains. It was very good for that. Now I will write a review about the photos and videos.
Photos are good shots. I'm always happy when I see the final product of my shot. Especially for the price I paid for the camera. The camera is very good a picking up the subject (which in most cases with me was trains) and then delivering a nice focused shot right on the subject. The camera is very good in full light (daylight) conditions. Now the one this this camera does not do to well is take low light shots. You can turn the ISO from 80 to 1600 but it's still not at it's forte. Many photos come out blurry and unfocused. The camera is great for day shots.
For the video. I used the video feature for a long time and shot hundreds of trains with the camera before I upgraded to my Canon FS200. The video feature is good overall. It takes a good quality of video. It is able to focus on whatever you're shooting really well. It also picks up really good audio. I have never had a problem with the quality of the video or audio. The part this camera lacks is a quality zoom. You can give up on the zoom for videos. It comes out grainy and blurry. So don't get this camera if you really need or want a good zoom. Overall the videos come out well.
This is a very good entry level camera that would make a perfect Holiday present. The camera will lead you into photography and videography. It's been a really good camera for me and still use it today.

Used as an engineering project for The University of Massachusetts. Perfect. Awesome. Too good to be true. We literally sent this camera attached to a ballon (with modifications as well as some 'engineering' to get the job "properly" done) to an estimated 100 thousand feet PLUS, achieving the distance from Amherst Mass, to the shore of New Hampshire, landing in the Atlantic Ocean towards the coast. Found it four days later after a phone call, got all the pictures even after it landed in the ocean. Memory card survived.

I have had this Camera for two years and use it as a back-up for my Canon SLR Camera (the rebel XTi). I like the fact that it is powered by two AA batteries, it is light wight and has provided me with excellent images. I carry it when it is not practical to use the XTi. I bought one for my daughter as well. The battery life is fine if you turn off the camera between uses. Its menu items are similar to those of my SLR camera

I love this Camera, with the proper settings in manual mode my photos are as good as my Canon D 70. This is by far the best value for the buck that I have ever spent on a personal digital camera. Using energizer re-chargeable batteries I get hours of photos on one set. Don't pass this one by. Take your time to read the manual and ask some questions and you will be very pleased with the out come

I've had my Cannon for over a year now. I bought it in December of 2007, and it worked well. For a while. In the past five months, when i turn on my camera the screen provides a fuzzy image. I can basically see the grainy texture as i move to screen in another direction. The pictures I take now have a very poor quality, and i've stored my camera saftely and its in good condition, so there should be no reason for this sudden change!
