Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
I bought this camera for its full frame feature and 6 FPS. I enjoy action photography, especially football. I use to use a 40D for action and a Mark II for everything else. Now I have one camera that does everything I want from a camera and does it verry good. I used the HDR feature in Arizona and love the out of camera results.
I would recommend the Mark III to anyone looking for a camera that covers all phases of photgraphy. I did not use the video function since I am not big into video. I wish this camera was available 3 cameras back. I could have save some money

Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, just awesome
I was first kinda hesitant making the purchase due to the AF issues, but I went ahead and made the investment. I have only one word to describe this system WOW! The images are clear and crisp especially paired with L series lenses. I cannot praise this camera enough... its built tough with the power of a pro-level technology. Don't let the 10meg pixel fool you... its plenty enough. I think its about quality not quantity. The 1.3x mag factor is a small issue, but I can get around working with it.
I own a 5D MKII also and I must say that the 1D MK III is alot cleaner at higher ISO.
In summary this is one good camera for the price and I highly recomment it

Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, i like the button controls over the dial.
I wanted this camera for the speed. I own a 5D MkII as well. I love the 5D for protraists and landscapes, but it wasn't fast enough for shooting wildlife and sports. The 1D gives me the best of both worlds. Along with the 70-200 f2.8 IS L Canon lense I am unstoppable. I am always confident that I will capture the instant when action happens. The only focusing problems I have are my fault. I am not fast enough for the camera. I especially like the button controls for the shooting modes. With the other SLRs, the Rebel and the 5D I sometimes accidentally move the dial without notice. Not a problem with the 1D Mark III. I considered the 1D Mark IV, an outstanding camera, but for the price and not needing the video capability I chose the Mark III. Very satisfied because I know it will perform for many years to come.

Pros: increased iso range, image quality, build quality, controls
Cons: unreliable auto focus system
Used for college hockey @ D1 level and college football and baseball @ D3 level. Image quality was good, ISO improved level worked well, 10.1 mp is plenty, control changes were good, white balance, especially cwb, worked very well. Custom functions were confusing until Canon stepped in with important suggestions. Camera is solidly built. 10 fps was overkill in my opinion. But, the OOF picture count, in AI Servo AF, after 3 hockey games forced me back to the 1D Mark II N as my primary camera and the 1D Mark III became the backup. Even after firmware updates and a trip back to Canon for the mirror fix and improving my settings as well as trying to become more familiar with the new auto focus system by shooting birds and using a monopod I still could not match at anytime the percentage of in focus pics that I got from the 1D Mark II N. I was not a believer in the focus issue at first and then it became a problem for me and I had no choice but to believe. A great camera made mediocre by its auto focus system.

Pros: add a pro
The camera shows a high performance level at a worthy price. Only the 10 Mega Pixel are not any longer up-to-date. The video function of the Mark IV is not a real must, but nice to have.

Pros: fast autofocus, great iso performance, high fps when needed, 14 bit color, professional build and feel, dual memory card slots- priceless!
This is an excellent camera. I got a great deal on this purchasing it used from someone that upgraded to the Mark IV. I had the opportunity to use this to photograph a wedding recently and have used it for portraits as well. While I have owned it a short time, I am very pleased with its capabilities. The Autofocus capabilities in low light during for wedding use are miles ahead of any camera I have used(entry level and mid range DSLRs), noise appears to be very low even at higher ISOs, even 3200 is usable in my opinion(although I still prefer to stay with low when possible and use flash, but it is nice to have the option to go higher when I need to shoot available light). The ISO safety shift is a great feature, and the ability to really customize the camera to your needs is great, once you get used to the operation of the camera it is quite intuitive and easy to adjust settings on the go. Very impressive burst speed, and the ability to save to more than one memory card for image backup is priceless(especially for wedding photographers). I highly recommend this camera(or the Mark IV if money allows). I chose this over the 7D or 5D Mark ii because of the ability to backup images in camera, but the other features this camera has are an added bonus.

Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, Complicated controls/menu, pricey
This camera has incredible shooting speeds, which comes in great handy when I shoot action sports like auto racing. The resolution isn't very top-notch by today's standards, so go with the 5d mark II if you want to shoot portraits and other still objects, but for sports, this camera is the top choice. The camera is a bit pricey, so if you need fast shots on a budget, go with the 7d. The only problem I have had is that the camera occasionally has trouble focusing on still objects, but this could be just due to age. I would also pefer if the camera used the classic control dial and menu selection buttons that are used on the rebel series, rather than the more complicated selection systems. Other than that, this is a great choice for any serious sports shooter or photojournalist.

Cons: i have seen better lcd's
This is my third 1 series Canon that I have owned over the past three years and it is by far better than the earlier versions in ISO performance and the live view option sure is nice to use to fine tune focus on the eyes when doing portraits. I thought my old 1DMKIIN and 1DSMKII had good battery life until I purchased the MKIII simply amazing. So far this camera has not had any focus issues that some of the earlier ones did. All and all I'm very satisfied with the MKIII.

I have used this camera for over two years and have taken over a million images with it. It was ahead of its time when it was released in 2007 and still continues to perform like new. The focusing system is incredible and the speed of operation is what I would expect from a Canon. A+ Product!

Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
This is my second DSLR but it is by far my best. My wife got this camera for me as a gift in June of this year and since then I find it difficult to put this camera down. The auto focus is downright perfect, the picture quality is by far the best. Battery life is outstanding to boot. I like that the camera is not too light but is still very portable. Even at ISO 6400, the noise is almost non-existent. I pared this camera with the top of the line canon flash and found that the synchronicity between the two is just awesome. This camera has greatly enhanced my photographic skills. Watch out world, here I come!

I received this camera 6 months ago and have had nothing but great results, I shoot several times a week and haven't had one problem. This camera with 10 fps is awesome when you don't want to miss the shot. Along with it's fast auto focus I highly recommend this camera to anyone shooting wildlife or sports or anything else for that matter. The image quality is very nice. I have been using Canon gear since the 70's, I love their products.

Cons: poor focus
I have owned this camera for 6 mos. It now on its second trip in for Focus issues. I use L lenses that have worked perfectly on other EOS bodies. No matter what I try or what suggestions I use from the Canon site my keeper rate is very low. AI servo and one shot both have soft and OOF pics. It is as if in AI servo it is focusing somewhere else and every now and then I get a sharp picture. I am not sure what is happening in one shot - it worked ok before I sent it in the for the first repair. Great build Quality but the performance is just not there for me.
Great Pics when they are in focus.
Complicated and apparently not very well understood AI servo custom functions, even by Canon, I am not sure they do exactly what they want them too.

I've had this camera for almost a year. I shoot sports (ice hockey) mostly. After getting the camera set up as I like it and according to Canon recommendations, I've had nothing but great results. I found the camera at a great price, bought it, and never looked back. I've read where folks have AF issues but they've never been an issue with my brand of photography. I'm very satisfied with the purchase.

Although I have experienced plenty of heartburn with this camera in the past twenty months, after the AF system correction at the factory service center and the installation of firmware version 1.2.5 I am finally fully satisfied with its performance. This camera has superb build quality and has a controll layout that is intuitive and easy to use, so adjustments are quick and accurate. It is extremely durable and can be used in all sorts of weather without experiencing problems and the battery life far exceeds my expectations. Functionally, it is a joy to use and the performance is simply astounding: it shoots wildlife and sports with blazing speed and the image quality is outstanding. For photography of any moving subject matter, this is THE camera to have. I would recommend it to any high level amateur or professional.

I have been loyal to Canon to a default it seems, I overlooked the focus issues and other items and now my initial purchase of this camera has made me upset. The continious issues with the autofocus are unacceptable for a camera that cost as much as this one. I hope Canon does something for all of us to make this right.

I do hope Canon will help me on this one.I am an amateur
enthusiast and it took me longer for the issues to override my ego .I am a loyal Canon owner ,four cameras at this time.
Focus is poor and all the bells and whistles have not helped that cicumstance.
My old 20D does most apps as well and 50D is sharp!
I do hope I will be back soon to revise this assesment.
I'm taking my EOS-1 D Mark III to Canon for service.
