Pros: very fast first print, top grade scanner, solid construction, easy to set up and use
Cons: none
My 5850dn was delivered exactly one week ago. This multi-function printer seems extremely well built, not cheap in the least. All of the plastic appears to be of high quality. I had absolutely no trouble setting it up on a 6-foot USB cable. Immediately I tested all functions but the fax and everything worked perfectly. The very next day I began scanning every pertinent file in my personal file cabinet, about 1500 pages of one-sided and two-sided letter and legal documents. I used both Windows Fax and Scan and Microsoft Scanning software and they worked quite well in TIFF format. The software which came with the machine did not scan that clearly in PDF, so I switched to the other software which did not offer the option for a PDF scan. The ADF only jammed three times, twice for unknown reasons and once when I missed two pages stapled together (operator error). Overall this machine performed extremely well considering how many pages I ran through it over two days time. The scans were perfectly aligned and, with the software mentioned, the image quality was great. If the fax works as well as the rest of this machine, when I get around to testing it, I will be extremely satisfied. Thank you, Canon, for a well-made machine that works as it is supposed to work.
