Pros: frugal with ink, easy to load roll, wonderful with canvas, robust builtin cutting blade, hard drive and calibration, bulletproof reliability, canon usa priority telephone support for product
Cons: large
I am a professional landscape/nature/travel photographer. I sell my prints from my own gallery and I create my own prints rather than send the files out. I owned an IPF8000 for almost four years and it was flawless. I purchased the 8300 when a buying opportunity came along and I had a buyer for my 8000. It was a great decision, the 8300 is more refined than the 8000, which was superb in it's own right. This machine delivers stunning prints that just keep selling and selling.

This printer is a fantastic value for the money. I print my on portraits. I've never had a problem with skin tones. I also print canvas with this printer and it looks great.

Pros: beautiful prints, user friendly
We have had the iPF8300 for nearly a year now and It has been such a wonderful tool. For Portrait Photographers who want the freedom to print stunning prints in house, I can't imagine an easier printer. The learning curve is easy, the size of the printer isn't a problem (you can fit it in a place along a wall the width of the printer with only a few feet in front of it for space to change paper) The prints are superb. What's not to like?
Do your homework of course, but at the end of the day, when you've purchased and used this printer, you will be smiling, and better yet... Your Client's will be Smiling!

Pros: Easy Setup, High Quality Output, easy to use, outrageously good color range
Cons: Poor Media Handling, sheet handling is awful
I've never owned Canon printers before, have always been a user of one of the other brands, including doing workshops sponsored by them. I recently got a couple of commissions big enough in size and requiring big prints, so I could finally justify a very large format printer.
I compared all the options in the 44 inch mega-gamut category. It's tricky deciding looking at the test prints manufacturers send out, I was fortunate to talk a seller into printing a couple prints of mine on the three candidate printers. The Canon won, hands down, on the paper types that I usually print on. One picture that I always struggled to print because of its extreme color range finally printed the way it looked in my head, and it was on this printer.
Relatively easy to set up. It took me longer to unpack the stand and printer than it did to build the stand. They're not kidding that you should have at least four strong people to get it on the stand (I had three macho moving company guys who said they could handle 200 pounds each, but it's not just heavy, it's also bulky.)
Setup, head adjustment, and calibration was smooth and automatic. Lots of ink left after priming and the setup work, thanks to the large standard cartridge size. My first couple of test prints were fantastic, next to older versions they completely rock - almost new images. Just started the painful process of profiling my old favorite papers, but have been impressed enough by two of the Canon papers, out of the box with Canon's profiles, that I'm going to try their equivalents to my old favorites.
The only downer is that loading sheets is fiddly and tricky - moreso than with the other brand printers that I used to curse for being fiddly and tricky. It's so far off from how easy everything else has been that I guess Canon figures anybody with this printer will be printing exclusively from rolls. Unfortunately I print on many traditional uncoated fine art papers that only come in sheets, and the five sheet loading experiences so far have been awful enough to give me some concerns.
Overall very happy, although I'm sure I'll be a little less happy the first time I have to replace a bunch of ink carts.

Pros: Easy Setup, High Quality Output, easy to use
First, I'm brand new to large format printing and I was a little intimidated by the size of this printer. It's big. The set up was extremely easy and straight forward. My first prints were printed using the included Photoshop plug-in and were beautiful. I'll write more in a few months after I've spent more time with the printer.
