Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, superior image
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, pricey
The Canon 5D Mark III is a excellent camera. Have owned it since November 2012 and enjoyed the camera immensely. The AF system and speed of focus is truly remarkable and 6 FPS makes it possible to capture the images when needed. Amazing pictures in low light! Have been impressed in all situations (portrait, landscape, formal events and sports). Though pricey, you get what you pay for and so much much. Was initially going to purchase the 7D but very glad that I went with the 5D instead. The EF lenses (L series) have made this camera a photographer's dream and one to rival any other full frame camera in its class. This camera is a workhorse and is built for the professional and the amateur enthusiast alike.

Pros: good battery life, quiet, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, looks & feels good, very clear images
I use my cameras almost exclusively for wild life shots, often deep in the dry, dusty, bush of a country in Africa where little or no technical back up exists. One needs a product in this environment which delivers what it says it can and Canon always does. There is no room for fancy equipment/gizmo's that dazzle you in the shop and then fail you when the chips are down and you really need them... I started off a 400D, then moved onto a 40D. During this period I began to realise what using 'good glass' really meant and upgraded my lens's to a couple of L lens and a 7D body. From there I chose the 5D 111 in order to move into the full frame environment. With an L lens (silver body) this camera will deliver all that the manufacturer says it will. Remember, if you use a lower quality lens, you will not get top quality pictures. Cameras AND lens's both need to be top notch if you want the best quality pictures - and the 5D 111 with the best silver L lens you can afford will give you this. As far as taking this camera into a harsh environment goes, I have the utmost confidence it will always come up to scratch whenever I need it to, and without having to 'baby' it.
I cannot give a review on studio or people photography as I do not do any of this type of work.
In short, I can fully recommend this camera for outdoor wild life work.

Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation
Cons: af in low light, lacks af auxiliary light, lacks built-in flash
I upgraded from the Mark II and discovered a new world, as far as video mode and HI ISO performances are concerned. So far, that's the greatest not "very expensive" Video DSRL you can buy. AF in low light conditions, if you're not using a very fast lens, is not reliable at all and the camera has not an AF auxiliary light. Other than that, that's an amazing camera for stills and videos. It's a pity it lacks the AF auxiliary light and a built in flash...

Upgraded from Canon 50D and WOW what a difference. My 50D was great mind you, but I can tell a difference in my shots. Maybe it's the bigger CMOS or the fact I shelled out so much money for the thing, but I am very happy with the results. Looking forward to trying different lenses. Mine came with the 24-105 that come with the full kit purchase, love it. Just wish video had an automatic settings so I could just point and shoot in a hurry rather than make sure I'm in focus etc... Even though I'm not a pro photo guy, but I sure feel like I could be with this bad boy on my shoulder!

Cons: Missing features/settings
Love everything about the 5D MkIII aside firmware support. Body built like a tank, great bells and whistles and very importantly low light capability is unrivaled with the right lens. I bought in on all the above and on the promise of HDMI Raw and view capability in the near future. My one frustration is the later which has still not materialized. Promised on or before the end of April (6mo) from time of purchase, now committed to 4/30 (the last possible day promise), I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling about the promise of HDMI Raw.

Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, excellent still image quality
Cons: poor hd video quality very soft, expensive
First off I have to say this camera takes amazing still photographs, the autofocus system works really well. I'm amazed at the quality of the stills from 5D3. I purchased the kit version with the included 24-105mm F4.0/L USM IS lens. I've read so many reviews of this camera and thought it would be a great performer with HD video as well based on what I read, for me the HD video was a downer the quality is very soft and does not look sharp even on the fantastic LCD screen of the camera. If it looks soft on the LCD you can be sure it will look soft when downloaded to your computer. I would recommend the camera but only for stills, if sharp and high resolution HD videos are what you're looking then the 5D3 may not be your best choice at this time.

I cannot import files from my new Canon 5D Mark III.
I am running Mac OS X 10.7.5 with Apple Aperture and Adobe Lightroom. However, Windows works flawless. Reading up on this I found that it is a rather common issue with RAW files for the Mark III. Therefore I think the responsible party should move quickly! And if CANON is not responsible it should put pressure on the other parties(most likely apple) to fix it!
Shelling out 3k for a camera should not give me the headache, which it currently does!
Here is the console log for Apple Aperture; it will open the preview window and then simply freeze

I have Been using canon cameras for a long time. The AF system is Spot on, the issue people have been having is with the programs in RAW codecs, once you download Canons latest DPP software there are no issues. The main thing everyone doesn't realize its just not the camera but the glass also. if you buy the best glass you get awesome sharp pictures!!! Hands down, you get what you pay for. The functions and settings on this camera are a little confusing if you do not take the time to read the manual and do some homework first. After reading the Camera Manual and learning more on what settings are for Nighttime, Daytime, Flash etc. your Pictures will look amazing, compared to what you shot prior. There are combination of glass and Camera comparisons in the Manual for AF points selections etc, you should read prior to buying any Lens. Do your homework and you will not be sorry. The 5D Mark III has well improved over the MK II and is really a wonderful camera, I see tons of reviews on Movie recording, but if you want to shoot professional movies you cant expect to buy 3500 gear and produce top notch movies. Purchase a movie camera instead. Not that this camera doesn't have an awesome movie mode, but each one person has there own special needs. Bottom line if your even thinking about upgrading, don't even think twice make the jump you will be SOOOO HAPPY with your purchase. Low light is awesome, speed is awesome, quite mode is awesome, movie mode is awesome, GLASS is Most important to verify this Camera is Awesome. Good luck and Happy Photos

The 5D Mark III is by far the best camera I ever owned. Build quality is excellent, image quality and color reproduction is true to life. The camera focuses fast and accurately and one of the nicest features that I found is its ability to focus quickly in relatively low light. There were other reasons why I purchased this particular model, such as full frame sensor, dual storage media etc., but once you hold this camera in your hands you will quickly see why you want one for yourself.

This is another fine camera from Canon. I have used it at dog shows and in a studio setting so far. I still use my Canon 1Ds but this camera will replace the 1Ds for all my outdoor shooting. The mark III process various light setting very well. The noise reduction at higher ISO settings is superior to my other cameras. It has a a lot more features which ads to it's versatility. I am very happy with this purchase.

Cons: Missing features/settings
I've had a couple Rebels (most recently the T4i), and decided to go full frame. This camera certainly is living up to my expectations! Can't say enough good things about it. If you're not making money in photography, the 1D line is probably not necessary. This baby delivers all the goods that any level of amateur will need. Beautiful screen, excellent low light capabilities (seriously, ISO 16,000 works like 6400 on my T4i).
I'd have liked a pop-up flash to control Speedlights, and an internal radio setup would have been fantastic (4 stars for features). This is older than the 6D and T4i, so I can't deduct points for lack of touch screen, GPS, and WiFi, and I don't see a vari-angle screen coming to the top level cameras in the near future.
It is a bit pricey compared to its competition (4 stars for price).
Overall, this is a 5-star camera that I will have for years to come... until the 5D Mk IV becomes available :-)

Pros: Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: a bit pricey
When an update of an existing model is introduced, we always wonder whether it is enough of an improvement to merit the investment. In this case I would say "DEFINITELY YES". The main reason I sprang for it was the improved image quality at high ISOs (my work requires a lot of fast shutter speeds using whatever light happens to be wandering around at the moment) and I have not been disappointed. I would say the advantage is at least 2 full stops, but that's not scientifically measured, just as perceived by little eyeballs. In the "Unexpected Bonus" column, I found a vastly improved AF system with excellent tracking and a high degree of adjustability, and many little but important tweaks, like a lock on the mode dial so the camera doesn't accidentally move over into Manual when you're expecting Aperture Priority (or vice versa), and a general lock to hold everything else where you left it while you're rotating the camera, shifting your grip, scratching your ear, etc. Also includes a new, easily accessible "silent shoot" mode that you can actually use. I feel I got a lot more than I expected, which is always pleasant. My advice would be: if you are considering this camera seriously enough to read all of this, then I'd say go for it.

Pros: good battery life, quiet, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, Heavy/Bulky, lack of firmware updates to improve the camera
This is a great camera made into an average camera by lack of improvement in the camera since it's release. There has been no major firmware update in the 9 months since I bought this camera with the exception of adding f8 cross focus points (primarily for use only with teleconverters) and will be another 3 months until one appears. The 1DX has had two such firmware updates since it's release 6 months after the 5D3.
It is not a well supported camera by the manufacturer and it's value over the last 6 months is severely diminished because later ( and cheaper) cameras such as the 6D have similar functions aside from autofocus.
I love this camera but it is increasing frustrating knowing I have paid a premium for a quality product which has been devalued because of protecting the top of the line camera.
My recommendation is either buy the 1DX and if you can't afford it, get the 6D and save your money for extra lenses.

Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
I am glad I purchased this camera, in the beginning I was going to stick with my 7D and just purchase new lenses . I am glad I bought the 5D mark3 , the images are much more than just A picture, they come to life.I really cant say much more than that since I'm and amateur .Until I learn more about the cameras settings and features like HDR,RAW and videos ,I will add more to this review. So far so good, I know I'm pleased with my purchase.

Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, af is amazing!!!
When i saw this camera i knew i wanted it but the price was kind of high I have a 7D and its a great camera to but i was looking for something more I was worried at first when i was comparing the pretty big price difference between the two and i asked myself is it really worth the extra money when i got my camera within the first week it was blowing my mind i expected it to be somewhat better but WOW to mention a few image quality, shutter noise, AF, and iso are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Im taking brilliant bright pictures now and i really thought my 7D was all that so to speak boy was i wrong i suggested this camera to all my coworkers as well as my friends im using it for nature studio and some sports and it has preformed great so far so do your self a favor and save up for this camera and as far as weight i like having a heavier camera because it feels as solid as a tank

Cons: Heavy/Bulky
Wel i i think this camera has great low light compare to my gh2
i just got it still doing some test on diferent scene sytyle
I will use flat and try color grade it in post.
I wish it would be a lighter weight but than it would not be rugged.I used this camera for video use 98 percent so i would like to get back into still with this camera
