I installed Image Browser EX onto my computer, connected camera (Canon 7D) to computer. Opened Image Browser EX and was confronted with a black screen .. eventually I managed to get it to acknowledge the photo files on my computer. They appeared as little grey folders, but there was no way I could get any further and actually see a photo. It doesn't seem to load the photos ... eventually gave up and uninstalled ... a pathetic waste of time and disk space

Pros: camera optics are good
Cons: hardly functionng gps, gps software
I bought the Canon SX260 HS primarily for its GPS function. That GPS works in very few casesin wide open spaces (not in New York or Montreal) and then it provides coordinates. The Image Browser EX was supposed to provide the translation but the one delivered to me by Amazon does not show the map function it is supposed to. With that the GPS function of the camera is useless. I am returning the product and am totally dismayed of the camera and the browser.

Why can't a company as big as Canon recognize poorly thought-out software? This is a huge step backwards from the old ImageBrowser EX. The new interface is cluttered with useless rubbish. The human interface for photo editing is awkward, out of date, and crude. The software suffers from slow response due to the computer being forced to grind away processing their terrible facial recognition even if the photos are all landscape and nature photos with no faces. Unfortunately there is no way to turn off this useless facial recognition "feature". The old ImageBrowser was much easier to use, but it appears to be no longer maintained or updated.

Cons: can't download images from a memory card/camera, incorrect terminology
Where to start...
First, it is poorly and confusing documented that Canon Camera Window (and ZoomBrowser) is required to download images from a camera before ImageBrowser EX can do its thing.
Second, no one at Canon seems to have used/debugged this software prior to release. When you go to import images from memory card it says "no images to download to the memory card". To and from are two different things Canon!
Very bloated software to do what it does, and it can't even download images from a camera without ZoomBrowser.

When I got my new X4i and saw the new Image Browser EX software I was initially excited, figuring it was really a step up above Zoom Browser EX. I have always really liked Zoom Browser EX for editing JPEG files. It is quick and easy to use and does a pretty good job for basic JPEG editing. I must say, in my opinion, Image Browser is a step backwards. Even though information with my X4i says that Zoom Browser does not work with these photos, I sure am glad it does. Yes, I get messages that some shooting information may be lost and I thought it was due to that program’s limitations. But then I get the same message with Image Browser. What is a real nuisance about Image Browser is having to save my file after each editing step. That really slows things down. And unless I want 4 or 5 different versions of the file saved, I keep having to type in my own new file name. What used to take less than two minutes to do, now takes closer to five minutes, and then I may have several files do delete, which sure fills up my recycle bin in a hurry. Typically, when I go out for one of my nature shoots, I take 150-200 photos. I could do my initial scan with Zoom Browser and do my first eliminations, without editing, very quickly. It is much slower to scan each file with Image Browser. I thought the initial update was going to solve a lot of my issues, but it did not solve any of them. I will stick with using Zoom Browser until such time as Image Browser can be close to as easy to use. What gets me even more is that the edited results with Image Browser are not any better than what I have always gotten with Zoom Browser. If it ain’t broke……don’t fix it.
