Pros: Fast auto-focus, Super-sharp images
Cons: none
No, this is not an L grade lens. No, its not a USM lens. NO WORRIES! This is a great little lens!
No its not the latest and greatest of Canon's expertise, but what this lens does is provide wide coverage for full frame cameras, or normal coverage for reduced format (digital) cameras and an unbelievably low price.
I've had my EF28mm/2.8 since the early 1990's. Its still hanging in there! I use it a LOT too.
This lens is very sharp, not astoundingly so, but sharp enough for 20x30 inch prints, and easily so.
The build quality reflects that somewhat plastic feeling mid level of Canon's line up, but with 1000's of shots through mine, no issues whatsoever. Focusing remains fast, even with no USM, because the lens simply does not have to move much distance to focus.
I have zero issues with this lens, use it a lot, sometimes carrying it on a film camera while the EF28/1.8 rides on a digital (or the other way around).
Its very light weight, and I can put it on the digital Rebel XTi and have a light package for family snapshots. A pleasure to carry at that point.

I was happy with this lens when I first used it. It is built very well, without the familiar plastic feel. I like how the focal ring doesn't activate when it is placed into AF mode to prevent it from breaking. I also think the distance scale is helpful and stylish. My only complaint with the lens is the loud auto-focusing noise. But overall, this lens is a fantastic buy for what it's worth.

Pros: sharp focus, pretty fast af, good build quality
I purchased this lens 10 months ago. I have since used it in san francisco, monterey, sacramento, lake tahoe, and other places. I have to say that i am completely satisfied with my copy of this lens. The picture quality is not as nice as my ef 50/1.4 but it is nice. This lens is sharp wide open, the colors are well balanced and has pretty good contrast. The focus is accurate and moderately fast. To some it up in one sentence, Better picture and faster aperture than standard EF and EF-S zoom lenses. The quality is also pretty good. This is not the same cheap plastic feeling as the 50 f/1.8. It has a metal mount, a solid feel, like it is not a toy, and the manual focus is smooth and has a wide range so you can really get a finely tuned focus.

Was not as wide as purported. Purchased for interior work and was just simply underwhelmed.
