Pros: Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, Super-sharp images, very versitile lens, replaced several lenses
Cons: not usm
I bought this lens just over two years ago as a package deal on three lenses. At first I never used it as I wanted the other two "L" lenses but the deal included all three. One day I put it on my 40D and took it outside with my daughter and two of her friends for an informal Prom shoot. The biggest mistake I made was not using this lens before! The shots are easily the equal to any taken with my "L" lenses and to some extent even better. No soft focus filter is needed. The first setting did the job fine. I found the second setting was a little too soft for most shots over 4 or 5 meters. Using this lens while shooting teenagers with complex complexion problems made my life much easier during processing. The girls couldn't have been happier. It's now a "go to" lens for any situation where I need reach, soft focus or crystal clear clarity. I'd buy another if something happen to it.

Pros: Super-sharp images, soft focus
Great IQ, sharp wide open. Soft focus is nice if used wisely. This is a very old lens with old everything, not unlike many of the other Canon primes. Old but works great. AF is not USM here. Works fine just not as refined. Love it!
