I have the scanner for several years ad liked it so far. Unfrtunately Canon does not think it is necessairy to provide WIndows 64 Bit drivers -- on my new computer I cannot use the scanner anymore. Very convinient for Canan, as they can now sell more new scanners. Very bad for the environment as all -- perfectly working -- old scanners are now not more than e-waste.

I have had the Canon Lide 80 scanner for several years. It basically only works for me on a win98 machine. I find the drivers to be quirky especially with win 7 and linux.

Pros: Compact Design, easy to use, Fast Connectivity, inexpensive, quiet, attractive
For on-the-go scanning, I haven't found better. Sure, it doesn't compare to my desktop scanners but who lugs around a 15 pound scanner. I'm able to fit my laptop, portable printer, and this scanner in my laptop bag and hop a plane and go.
The fact that it doesn't require its own power supply is a great plus. Also, I've set up the buttons to (1) print a picture directly to my printer (2) scan directly into my photo editing software (3) save photos (4) run OCR directly into MS Word.
Who could ask for anything more from a PORTABLE scanner.
I'm buying one for all my laptops (3).

Pros: Compact Design, durable, easy to use, Fast Connectivity
Cons: Slow-speed scanning
For low resolution scanning the speed is OK, but for higher resolution it can be very slow. I bought this scanner to copy old photographs which it does slower than I would like. Unfortunately it has a real problem with the old sepia prints and always distorts the colors. This has forced me to convert them to B&W. I assume this occurs because of the type of light that is used.

Pros: Compact Design, durable, easy to use, Fast Connectivity, High resolution
Cons: will not work with vista
I bought this scanner when I was running XP. Now I switched to Vista 64 bit and the scanner won't function. No drivers are available from Cannon! I only had this scanner for a few months now it's worthless.

Pros: easy to use
This scanner works pretty well under xp and vista. The Canoscan software is a bit annoying at times, but pretty good overall. I've recently switched over to linux and the only device that I can't seem to make work is this scanner. That's disappointing.
